Pye (UK) Album Discography: Later Albums and Selected PRT Releases
Here is a guide to the later releases of Pye Records and all the known LP releases that were on the PRT label that succeeded it after Precision Records and Tapes decided not to renew its agreement to lease the Pye name.
PRT achieved nowhere near the chart action or name recognition under that name as was had when it was called Pye Records. They had precisely four entries in the UK Top 10, three of which were remixes.

The one top-10 chart entry PRT had that wasn’t a remix was one of over 140 versions of a tune that is often played at weddings and Oktoberfest events and also should be very familiar to many who have made it past primary school. Where a lot of people called it the Chicken Dance, producer Henry Hadaway called it “The Birdie Song”. The oom-pah tune has its origins in the 1950s, when it was composed by a Swiss accordionist from Thurgau whose name was Werner Thomas. Mr Hadaway added some handclaps and a dance to the song, which he credited to a group called the Tweets; this group consisted of people in bird costumes who mimed their instruments on TV with younger people dancing to the tune on the stage. The ploy worked in the song’s favor, as it spent two weeks at #2 on the UK Singles Chart, with two records to keep it out of the top spot on each week. On the first week, the punk group Adam and the Ants, with their CBS single “Prince Charming”, kept “The Birdie Song” lodged at #2. The next week, it was progressive rock keyboardist Dave Stewart and Kanterbury scene singer Barbara Gaskin who kept “The Birdie Song” from reaching the top spot with their revival of Leslie Gore’s 1963 hit “It’s My Party” on Stiff. “The Birdie Song” stayed in the UK top 10 for another five weeks and was easily the biggest hit PRT had with any original song in their eight-year run, but it did not spawn an album; that would come later when Spartan issued the Tweets’ self-titled LP, which became the only LP released on the Crash label [CRA LP 701].
PRT’s other notable entries in the top-10 on the Singles Chart were all remixes. The Real Thing had two with the Decade Remix versions of “You To Me Are Everything” and “Can’t Get By Without You”, while Petula Clark, much to her astonishment, latched into a #10 position on the Singles Chart with a remix of “Downtown” in the winter of 1988. In an interview with The Age in 2004, she remarked that:
The first time I heard the ’88 remix of ‘Downtown’ I was in my car. I thought: “This sounds familiar. I wonder who’s singing this?” and it turned out to be me! They’d wiped out the orchestra and put on some kind of ticka-ticka-tick thing. I don’t know what the hell it was, but it turned into a hit. They don’t have to ask my permission, if you know what I mean. But it’s fine. I find it rather flattering, actually. And quite amusing.
Among the other releases of note on PRT (though they didn’t chart) were the products of its further association with the GRP-Crescendo label, which was inherited from Pye. The label’s new owner, Neil Norman, who was into science fiction, had secured a deal with Paramount Pictures to have GRP-Crescendo release various soundtracks for the Star Trek franchise (and also for Fatal Attraction), and PRT handled UK distribution for said soundtracks.
Not much else happened at PRT Records during the ensuing eight to ten years except that it introduced EAN codes in 1983 and CDs in 1985. In exactly two fell swoops — the dropping of the Pye name and the takeover by Rupert Holmes a Court — the company, once a major UK hitmaker, became a shell of its former self. It was closed amidst financial troubles at the Bond Corporation following their buyout of PRT in 1988.
The first PRT label was green with a red orb forming from the top to the centre and a PRT logo at the top of the orb.

In either late 1985 or early 1986, this was changed to a label with a stacked PRT sitting in front of a blue to white gradient.

The last releases used a white label with a boxed logo containing the PRT text.

PRT albums could be awarded an awkward medal of perseverance for continuing to hold on to the notice on the back of their LPs indicating that “this Stereo record can be played on mono reproducers provided either a compatible or stereo cartridge wired for mono is fitted”. When PRT was renamed from Pye in 1980, few people were making mono record players, and by 1987, when PRT stopped using that notice on the back cover, few people wanted any record players, as the cassette (and later CD) was rapidly taking over as the main format of choice for music consumption. It’s doubtful PRT could have lived, if it chose, to see people going back to buying record players and things to play on them in the 2010s.
N 100 series
This series began under Pye. The first few albums in the series used the purple-to-carnation Pye label of the mid-to-late ’70s. A few albums in, it was changed to a black to white label with similar graphics:

The PRT label designs started to be used in the series in 1980.
Some albums in this series were released on a revived Piccadilly sublabel, which had a unique design featuring a diner-like layout on side A and a track listing on side B.
