Chapter 56

“Main sale room filling up fast.” Seventeen earphones received that message from Onyx, the massive black man manning the back entrance of Crawdad’s huge warehouse.

“A stream of buyers shuffling past each stall… average pause… forty-seven seconds. We have surpassed last month’s open house three times over.”

“By noon that stream of buyers will slow to a crawl,” Crawdad read that data from his computer. “Watch how each man takes one final look, evaluates, makes notes. That’s enough to gauge the level of interest one particular gentleman has for which girl. Use that information to drive the bids higher. This is how we make some real money, boys!”

After giving time for his men to assess that flow of information, each man downstairs on the auction floor, he was certain, were now calculating the funds to be made as the crowd of men continued to browse, moving from one cubicle to another.

“Our sale starts at seven, gentlemen. Keep the alcohol flowing but alert security to any sign of trouble before it can slide to a real problem. Alcohol inflames those already prone toward conflict. Nip it fast so it never escalates!”

“What about the front and side entrances?” One man asked, a question quickly answered. “All back and side doors locked, the exit only, disabled.”

“That’s against city fire code. Could result in shutting this down.”

That remark made by a voice no one recognized was such idiocy, Crawdad felt an icy prick crawl up his back. The mics had all fallen silent in that one moment, suspicion rising in every Gorilla member present.

Even as Crawdad reached for his phone, Onyx finished his assessment while visually, he scanned the crowd, looking for that errant voice. “Hallway monitored, all quadrants covered, extra men on the floor and each exit.

Using his private cell, Crawdad sent a separate message to Gorillas only; those in the warehouse with him, in South Dakota, and even to Froggy, left behind in Colorado to keep an eye on the ranch.

US or IPOL?

Was Crawdad’s cryptic text message. It had to be one or the other. Local law was in Crawdad’s pocket. They were in fact, keeping an ear and eye out for any agency chatter directed toward this end of Black Marsh.

As Hades, Ray, Wolf, Bear and Onyx checked their cellphones, Crawdad believed he spotted the outlier. After carefully vetting each guest for the day’s auction, he knew each of those meant to be there.

Only men with the deepest pockets had been invited to this particular sale and those had all been customers for years. Spotting the one who didn’t belong should be easy, once he came aware that he’d been infiltrated.

Logging in as Administrator, Crawdad scanned the RSVP’s. Nothing seemed unusual. Another scan produced nothing suspicious, until he studied the IP credentials.

— Source: 20.14.118.6 — U.S. Intelligence Network, Langley, VA. — Device: Redacted. — Browser: Unregistered secure client. This was not the invited guest.

‘That’s an OH FUCK!’ Crawdad mentally cursed as he read that last line, pulling his phone to send DM’s to Security and Gorillas on the floor below.

We have a crasher. Hades is closest. Southwest quadrant, probably the voice. May be more. Find them! NOW!

Through their earpieces Crawdad issued the command to a chosen few. “Lock her down, boys! Be subtle. No one leaves!”

Barry, who monitored the cameras master-board sent instructions.

Front bar. Tall. Bearded. Crowd hinders escape. Keep looking for more.

“Hades! Is that you?” Crawdad spoke through the earpiece on purpose, giving clue to the infiltrator that he was toast. When Hades answered with a question to the intruder, it was magic to his ears.

“Going somewhere, asshole? ID with RSVP, if you please!” A tone that gave no hint of respect, only condemnation.

The Security team moved methodically from guest to guest checking confirmed RSVPs against biometrics recorded with each registered guest, asking each of them to recite the unique number assigned to each pass.

Silverback’s rich baritone crackled the earpieces, addressing a second trespasser. “It’s locked. Can’t use that door. One exit… and it’s that-a-way.”

Barry pointed to a corner of one monitor so Crawdad could see the past club president confront this infiltrator. “You here to spy? Cite us for a health or fire violation?”

Crawdad did not hear the man’s reply, focused more on the crowd behind Silverback, searching for a third or even fourth party crasher. “Check for an earpiece! I want to know how that VOICE! Got one!” It was strictly controlled company equipment handed out as needed and Crawdad wanted to know how he got it.

The answer came soon after. “He had an earbud but he’s not the VOICE. Ditto for this asshole.” Came Hades’s tenor right after. “Shit!” Hollered Ray and Crawdad together. “That means we have at least one more to sniff out!”

Anxious now with his back crawling prickly fear spiders, Crawdad began the arduous task of verifying each guest through the biometric keys he kept on each client. All but four checked out.

“We do have one guy still out there, boys. FIND HIM!”

“No! Just two! Just two of us!” A voice Crawdad could not identify, heard the bud exit the man’s ear… finally found him, the one Hades was pushing toward the trap door to the underground dungeon.

“There’s definitely a fourth guy in that auction room… but wait…” Crawdad searched a row of monitors. “Something’s off. Any chance our fourth is one of the women?”

“Hah!” I’ll just bet… doesn’t that just fry your ass?” Shouted Wolf through his mic, certain he’d just spotted her. “Stall 48.”

“That was not to be used tonight! Air malfunctioned in that one. Better check her. Make sure she’s still breathing.”

“Sweating heavy but she’s breathing. Get me a saline drip and bottle of water. Where do you want her to go?”

“Stall 58, five steps down from where you are. Where’s my Security team?” “Helping Ray search out the VOICE.”

Barry focused on the woman, zoomed in for a closeup. “Do you recognize her, Crawdad?”

“No.” Crawdad checked his list… counted heads… names… cubicles. “How did this female slip past us? Stall 58… supposed to be closed, out of commission. Hell! Figure this out boys! Barry, start with the last 30 minutes before we opened our doors. Find me the Security who let these assholes in!”

“Found him!” Came Ray’s boasting boom. “Not your Security guy. Maybe the VOICE. Hiding beneath the Janitor’s sink. Just like a chicken-shit pussy. Hades! I’m coming down. Be there to let me in!”

Another minute and there was the sound of the trapdoor opening. “Fucking worm is shaking like a leaf.”

Hades grinned, opened the next door wide so Ray could shove the guy with a violent push that sent him careening across the dungeon floor, his upper body ahead of his feet, pitching him forward to land head-first against the concrete wall.

“Ouch!” Hades said it for him, cringed when he saw his battered face with blood pouring from his nose. “That had to hurt. Tough head-plant! You’ll have a headache from hell.” Helping the sorry victim to his feet Hades added, “Time to join your friends.”

“You haven’t got all of us. You never will! Think we don’t have heavy manpower outside?” Ray nipped that bluff cold. “I know you don’t.” “You’re awfully confident.”

“If there was someone out there, last thing you would have done is mention it. How long since you passed training?” From Hades.

“I’m thinking you should’a had a refresher course.” Then into the mic at his collar Ray announced, “Found the voice. Stupid AND a coward!”

Hades grinned. “Cavity search is gonna be fun with this one!

The Voice did not like the expressive grin of the blonde called Hades… Younger than he was. Bulging biceps where the short sleeves of his T-shirt ended.

Rage Against the Machine. Yeah. That fits. Biker! Pusher! Pimp!”

“Get it all out there, G-man. What are you? FBI?” Both brothers were laughing at the hapless agent.

“Can’t be CIA.” Ray was certain. “They couldn’t care less about our little operation here. Same with DHS. Those go after the terrorists.”

“I’m gonna rule out coast guard, though with Crawdad on an Arkansas tributary… feeds the Mississippi, then the gulf. What’s left. Ray?”

“No local law.” Crawdad broke in. “Got them in my pocket.”

After another minute evaluating the agent, Hades agreed. “They’re alone.” Then to the three prisoners. “Does D.C. even know you’re here?”

Crawdad chewed that observation for a minute, carefully studied each man as Hades and Ray worked together to muscle the intruder near the first two, watched each hand locked in thick iron manacles then a spreader bar.

The man was freaking out, spilling information, none of it useful to Crawdad. Then he studied the other two men, a gruesome sight with their pants down around their ankles, legs trapped in the same iron manacles with spreader bars, pillowcases over their heads, ball gags in their mouths.

This man was trembling. Shaking like a leaf, his face flooding red before draining white as he was locked down the same way, the white shirt he had splurged on to blend with a wealthy crowd… his belt unbuckled… pants pulled down to his ankles.

To the agent’s mortification and the Gorillas amusement, his naked cock stood straight out, hard as a rock, reacting to the rough treatment of spreader bars and anticipating the torture of a ball gag.

“Well! Look at this! We got us a bondage hound. Maybe we don’t kill these trespassers! Sell them! Make a buck or two!”

Crawdad grinned at that thought, wished the other two didn’t have sacks over their heads which hid their reactions.

Ashamed at his body’s response, the agent lifted both legs as Hades was sinking to his heels to padlock the spreader bar to a ring in the floor. Sensing the attack Hades jumped back, stood full height to retaliate, kicking the agent in the balls, a punch in his stomach before his anger receded, replaced by a calm gratitude that he’d moved in time to escape the attack.

“Now look what you made me do! My fist caused us both pain! Damn that hurt! Felt good though. Shouldn’t have trespassed, mother-fucker!”

“No ID on this piece of shit. That makes three without. Don’t we make all who come…” Crawdad interrupted. “How the fuck did these guys make it to the auction room with no ID?”

“Has to be a compromised Security Guard.” Ray concluded, climbing the steps to the main auction room where he could scrutinize the crowd. picking out numerous Security figures by the bright blue shirts and white lettering for SECURITY. One stood out, the culprit stopped at the exit by another black muscle man in a bright blue Security shirt.

Onyx was soon there to grab the suspect by his shirt collar. “My mistake, Crawdad. Don’t know how he slipped past me.”

With a sigh Crawdad conceded, “I vetted him! Had me fooled. He one has to disappear. He’s seen too much. Can’t snuff them all. Four men from the same office can’t all turn up missing, or even alive, but dazed. And that damn woman! Is she a looker?”

“Oh yeah! That bust is a 48 triple D or I don’t know women. Want her off the sale block?”

“Hell no! That bust is GOLD! Just sell her to a country that knows how to swallow people.”

“Any of these interlopers still wired? Have you retrieved our earbuds? Checked them for mics Recorders or cameras?” Questions asked as Onyx entered the underground dungeon with one very nervous Security Guard.

Crawdad sent a silent text to three dungeon cell phones.

No gags. See if they talk Once you’re outta there.

Not one man was wired.

“Do a cavity search just to make sure, best that you can without bringing them down.”

“How we going to manage that? Metal detector?” Onyx stared at the camera in the corner of the ceiling, then at Hades who with a grin walked toward a storage cabinet. “I just saw one. Must be some reason to keep it here.”

They did not see Crawdad and Barry laugh, watching them work the metal detector near the buttocks of all three men. “Will that really sound off for a mic or camera?”

Hades held a thumbs up, signaling he’d found something. “I guess it does!” Barry answered his own query.

Crawdad grinned. “I just needed a place to store it.”

On the floor above the auction and below the office lined with monitors, it was business as usual. Same formula for any auction, using routine to calm anxieties over the delay. The men waiting still eager to purchase what Crawdad was selling.

Third up was the woman party crasher with hair still wet from the cold shower she was forced to endure. They could have sold her in the condition they’d found her, she would still have brought them a good penny, but at a cost to Crawdad’s reputation. Better to have her clean and smelling fresh, like sunshine and flowers, maybe obsession or passionate sex, but definitely not sweat and fear.

She wasn’t much to look at; drowned rats tend to look better than she did, but the auctioneer focused all attention on her giant tits. The opening bid doubled what the auctioneer suggested as a start.

Message was sent to Crawdad. Some want to bid on the men.

Crawdad’s tone was one of triumphant glee, a large WHOOP! when he sent that message to the dungeon.

“Don’t bother to dress them boys! Just hose them down, make ’em smell purty, then march them in there. We just picked up four more sales! Our fella from Colorado will have company. Good way to wrap the sale day!”
