Don’t get many bad Verdejo’s
Not in my opinion anyway. It’s very rare that I haven’t enjoyed a bottle of Verdejo, either here in the UK or in Spain.

In Spain obviously, it’s everywhere, a lot of the time it’s the house white in bars and restaurants and I’ve rarely been disappointed with even the cheaper bottles, and I can’t say that about a lot of white wines.
As you may gather I like Verdejo, I’d happily have it as my house white. So when I saw Waitrose did a Rueda Verdejo on their own Blueprint range, I quickly snapped up a bottle to try.
Waitrose Blueprint Range Rueda Verdejo 2023

I do like the label, some of the ‘Blueprint’ range can be a little bland but this with the guitar is rather nice.
In the glass it smells bright and fresh, lots of lemon, lime and something a little vegetal and green.
On first sip those lemony flavours hit along with grapefruit, there was also Satsuma’s, but after the initial citrus kick, there was a hint of the trade mark fennel and toasted almonds.
As I said earlier, nothing to dislike about this Verdejo again, a good solid wine, not a fine wine, but for £6.99 very hard to fault.
