Our Travel Day from Utila to San Pedro Sula

Laura and I had quite an adventure the other day.

We had to get up very early in the morning when we left the resort in Utila, Honduras. We took a small boat into town, then we took a tuk-tuk to the ferry dock.

The day before, the ferry had been canceled because of the weather, so we weren’t sure if it would be available. But it was, and the waves were huge. It was a little rainy and dark, but we made it.

A driver picked us up at the ferry dock in La Ceiba, Honduras, and drove us for four hours across the highway. When I say “highway,” it’s a road with many obstacles. There were potholes, dogs, a cow, little motorcycles, and tuk-tuks.

Along the way, we saw huge fields of pineapples and bananas.

After the drive, we were dropped off at our hotel in San Pedro Sula, Honduras.

We had made reservations at the Isabella Boutique Hotel about one week ago, but when we arrived, the hotel didn’t know we were coming. Our reservation wasn’t in their system.

After some talking, we decided to call our credit card company. We spent about 45 minutes on the phone checking different issues. Finally, we discovered the problem.

I had booked a hotel called the Isabella Boutique Hotel in Cortes, Romania — not in San Pedro Sula, Honduras.

So that night, I had one hotel in San Pedro Sula and another hotel in Romania.

It took a long time for us to understand what happened and why the hotel in Honduras didn’t have our reservation. The hotel staff were wonderful and worked with us. Luckily, they had a room available.

After a long morning of travel, it was frustrating, but the hotel was lovely.
