• Analogy thinking: “This is how it’s usually done. Let’s make it a little better.”
• First Principles thinking: “What are the unquestionable truths here? Once I strip everything else away, what do I know for sure? Now, can I build a new solution from these fundamentals?”

🔹 Steps in First Principles Thinking

Define the problem clearly Ask: What exactly am I trying to solve?

Break it down to fundamentals Identify the core truths or facts that are absolutely certain. Example: For a car → A car = something that moves people from point A to point B safely.

Challenge assumptions Ask: What do we believe, but haven’t questioned?

Rebuild from the ground up Reconstruct a solution using the fundamentals instead of conventional assumptions

• Traditional reasoning: “Building rockets is expensive because aerospace suppliers charge huge markups.”
• First Principles:
• What’s a rocket made of? → Aluminum, titanium, copper, carbon fiber.
• What’s the raw material cost? → ~2% of the finished product price.
• Conclusion → If we buy raw materials and design in-house, rockets could be much cheaper.
