Yet again, the astronaut finds himself alone on a desolate planet. Or so he thinks.

“Not again!”

Mark Watney craned his neck and watched the VAV lifting from the face of Venus. “How come these things keep happening to me?“ he asked himself incredulously. “How can they forget me again, alone on an uninhabitable planet?”

He looked around at his surroundings. The hub stood where they left it. He circled the airlock and started laboriously to look for those damn potatoes.

He knew the drill.

Luckily, he assumed that taters grew fast in Venus’ atmosphere. He thought so because the Wretch had asked him about it, and he had to come up with an answer that sounded right. The Wretch was an AI bot that followed the crew to Venus, but as it turned out, it knew absolutely nothing and had constantly bothered them with stupid questions. “Well, at least he’s also gone with the crew,” thought Watney, relieved.

“Mark,” asked the Wretch with a nasal voice, “why are we still here?”

Watney teared up. Swearing, he decided to investigate how far he could throw the annoying machine in the dense atmosphere. Not far, apparently. He determined to take the thing apart and build a surround system instead.
