Love in the past century

Oh to be loved like in the last century

Stolen glances across a chandeliered room in a hurry

Oh the thrill of dancing on scores in a ball

And making gestures romantic even if small

To be loved so dearly as a muse

Commissioned gallery of canvases just for you

Writing ballads under the whickering light of flame

Secret scrolls of love passed under the moonlight’s claim

To tread and huff through miles just to see the one

A gleeful glance warmed a moment in the winter sun

To fight duels and battles without a thought

For affection grew beyond physical welfare by a lot

Oh to meet in confidence in a bricked alley

Concealed by ironic society’s perjury malady

To wait for seasons to change and hair grow grey

With one person you called yours in May

To be told about as a granny’s tale

Of love that grew for centuries and prevailed

So I weep in the unforgiving rain

Of glorious traditions we lost in vain

Closer than ever, but further we grow

Losing the intimacy of pure love in snow.
