I’m Not A Prude, But …

My husband and mentioned it to me, this morning, that he’d been successful at the online auction, and had to go to the auction house to pick up the two mannequin torso he’d ‘won’. I was going out too, and wasn’t sure when either of us would be home again.

When I got home, I saw he wasn’t home yet, so I didn’t expect it, that’s why it hit me so hard. I walked into the living room, and there was a woman of colour mannequin, or part thereof, perched on our sofa. No head, arms, or legs, just the torso, stark naked. And at our dining table, another one, a white woman, exactly the same, starkers.

I gave them a brief looking over, tiny waists, pert breasts with no sag or droop, I was once like that. except I have a head, brain, and arms and legs to go with my once pert young breasts. I went and got changed, noticing an item of clothing I was intending donating to an Op Shop at some stage. Perfect.

Then I noticed one of my T-shirts on the floor of our wardrobe, as I put my going out clothes away, again, perfect. So one I was back in the living room, I put the first item on the first woman/mannequin, and the T-shirt on the other, and now I looked at them both. Yes, they did look better like that.

As I said in the title, I’m not a prude, but sitting next to that headless naked plastic woman, because she’d been placed right next to my spot on the sofa, well that seemed to be a bit too much! I feel I should have had at least an informal introduction to both of these women, before I might feel completely comfortable to have one of them sitting right next to me.

Clothed, it seem, well slightly uncomfortable, but not too bad, and I love the way this top drapes over her body, very stylish. But to be perfectly honest, I’m not sure the sofa and the dining room table are the best possible place for these two women to be sitting.

Now my husband his home again, and was surprised to see his two new ‘ladies’ were no longer naked, but so be it. He wasn’t here, so I dealt with my own comfort! He said he intends ‘posing’ the ladies, putting them around the place, I suppose, and he mentioned making paper mache heads for them both, which sounds like some crafty fun …

I well remember making making paper mache things, using a balloon to get the perfect shape for a head, both as a child, and when our son was a child as well. I would never have imagined the making heads of heads for headless torsos though!

My husband likes looking for things at this auction house, and we have a variety of interesting things, purchased quite cheaply, and these two new ladies are up there, in the most interesting purchases so far. And to get two life sized torsos for display, at the cost of only $17.00, wow what a bargain, a bizarre bargain, perhaps, but a bargain’s a bargain!

Since he retired, my husband has even more time to engage in such interesting methods of purchase, although he was involved in getting things from this particular business prior to his retirement previously. Both of us have had enjoyable visits to this auction house in previous years, finding interesting things, and putting bids in.

Then there’s the watching of how the bidding is going, with success sometimes, but not others. It is a fun past time, and a fine way to get interesting things you may never find anywhere else. We have a gorgeous travatine coffee table that our TV sits on, very heavy, but lovely to look at and completely sturdy. My memory tells me that may have been an early auction house success from a great many years ago …

The excitement of getting something most other people don’t have, something not purchased from a shop, that everyone might but, that is an attraction of such Auction houses. The may be selling the entire contents of a deceased estate, and there’s no telling what may be there, from week to week. And with the online bidding, you put an upper price, and then you can’t be left with something that is hugely expensive.

For these ladies, my husband’s upper limit was $50 for the pair, and to get them both for only $17 seems like a huge plus! The idea of having a mannequin on our front veranda perhaps, or inside somewhere, posted in an interesting manner, that is not a totally new idea. And the more I think about it, the more comfortable I feel about having these new people here with us!

Now I feel these two need names, and once we can name them, I’m very much prepared to happily welcome them into our household!
