Chevy and GMC MyLink Screen Acting Up?

Your Silverado’s screen is tapping through menus on its own. Your Tahoe’s display has a line running through it that appeared out of nowhere. Your Sierra’s touch stopped responding in the bottom third. You have already tried resetting it. It came back for a day, maybe two, and then started again.

This is not a software problem. It is a hardware problem, and it is one of the most commonly reported issues across Chevy and GMC trucks and SUVs equipped with the 8-inch MyLink and IntelliLink system.

Why the 8-Inch MyLink Screen Fails

The 8-inch MyLink and IntelliLink display used across the Silverado, Tahoe, Suburban, Sierra, Yukon, Colorado, Canyon, and Acadia is built on the DJ080PA-01A platform. Like most vehicle touchscreens, it is a layered assembly: a digitizer on the front that reads touch input, bonded to an LCD panel behind it that produces the image.

Over time, the digitizer layer degrades. Heat cycles, UV exposure, and age all accelerate the process. When the digitizer starts to fail, the symptoms are consistent and recognizable: ghost touches that operate the screen without anyone touching it, inputs that register in the wrong location, dead zones where touch stops working entirely, and eventually lines or dark areas appearing in the LCD itself.

A soft reset might quiet things down temporarily, but the underlying hardware is failing and the symptoms will return.

What the Dealer Will Tell You

If you take a Chevy or GMC with a failing MyLink screen to the dealership, you are likely to be quoted for a head unit replacement rather than a screen replacement. Dealer pricing for this repair varies significantly, but it is not uncommon for owners to receive quotes that run well into the hundreds of dollars in parts and labor before any diagnostic fees.

The screen itself is not the issue most of the time. The head unit behind it is fine. What has failed is the display assembly mounted to the front of it, and that is a component that can be replaced directly without swapping out the entire radio.
