Learning from the Ant

6TH JULY 2026

Christ for Youth International

“Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise!”Proverbs 6:6 (NLT)

The ant has much to teach us. Though it is small in stature, it is mighty in wisdom. It has no commander to instruct it and no supervisor to watch over it, yet it faithfully does what needs to be done. It understands the value of diligence, so it does not wait to be told when to work. It knows that the best time to work is now.

The ant also recognizes that a season is coming when circumstances beyond its control will prevent it from gathering food. Because of this, it makes the most of the opportunity it has today. It works while it can, storing up what will be needed for tomorrow.

I believe the same principle applies to our lives. There is a season in which God has given us strength, energy, time, and opportunities to accomplish the purpose He has set before us. This is the time to labour faithfully — to grow spiritually, serve God wholeheartedly, build what He has entrusted to us, and work diligently with our hands. A day may come when we no longer have the same strength, freedom, or opportunities we enjoy today. If we delay what we should be doing now, we may regret the opportunities we allowed to pass by.

The ant reminds us that diligence is not merely about working hard; it is about recognizing the season God has given us and making the most of it.

May we not waste today’s opportunities through procrastination or laziness but instead be faithful with what God has placed in our hands while it is still called today.

Prayer :Lord, help me to lead myself as the ant does. Give me the wisdom to recognize the season You have placed me in, the diligence to make the most of it, and the discipline to do what needs to be done without waiting to be told. Keep me from procrastination and laziness and help me to be faithful with every opportunity You entrust to me. May I remain humble enough to learn even from the ant. Amen.
