Many people aspire to become millionaires and lead a luxurious lifestyle. I also think in the same way. For this, I decided to spend time with those who have become wealthy from scratch. However, I observed something interesting.
Most of the habits followed by these “rich” people were rather boring. These happen to be unassuming and quiet. Therefore, people tend to ignore these habits on most occasions.
That being said, here I have articulated some hidden habits that quietly build millionaires.
1. They treat time like a bank account with a strict balance
Before, I thought that wealthy people were more efficient compared to others. But, it isn’t the real fact.
The real difference is that they audit their time just like we audit bank accounts. Instead of asking, “Is this a proper use of time?” they ask, “What’s the long-term return on this hour?”
Once, I saw one of my close friends turn down the offer to have lunch with the company of a celebrity. It caught me by surprise. I was somewhat shocked. But my friend told me that he could not waste three hours with the celeb. It is particularly evident when no deal is going to be made.
It sounded arrogant. But I soon realized that my friend was not rude. On the other hand, he is mathematically precise.
Most people spend time since it seems to be abundant. A millionaire is going to safeguard it. This is because they know that it is the only resource that one cannot earn back.
2. They let small debts fester on purpose
This can sound counterintuitive. This is because our teachers taught us to pay off bills immediately. Nevertheless, there is a hidden habit that seems like laziness but is actually strategic.
An affluent person allows small debts to sit for some time. It isn’t because they are unable to pay. It is because they are trying to hone the art of holding onto cash.
I am acquainted with a real estate investor who owed $2,000 to a contractor. Despite having the cash, he waited for a month to make the payment. He told me that he was training himself to never allow cash to depart from his account faster than it should.
The majority of individuals tend to pay early. They do this to avoid anxiety. A millionaire will treat liquidity as safety. They do not make any haste to give it up only to clear a psychological checkbox.
3. They say “I don’t know” even when they could guess
We are all trained to provide a reply somehow. We tend to give an opinion when any person asks a question. Or else, we will criticize the person’s questions. We do this to maintain the flow of the conversation.
On the contrary, a typical millionaire does the opposite. They can simply say “I have no idea” confidently.
I was participating in a meeting when someone asked the founder about a niche tax implication. The founder might have bluffed. But he just said that he did not know, and he has to pay someone who does.
There is a lower chance for you to make costly mistakes when you don’t pretend to know everything. You will likewise attract better advisors. It is because smart people prefer working with those who listen instead of performing.
4. They leave money in “ugly” accounts
We all prefer to optimize. We like to have cash in high-yield accounts. We also suffer from tension when cash is sitting idle.
On most occasions, a millionaire keeps money in a standard checking account. It will not provide them with a significant interest. It looks stupid on paper.
Nevertheless, that ugly account is the “walk away” fund. It is the cash that enables them to say “no” to a bad client. Otherwise, they can also wait for several months waiting for a deal to ripen.
Most folks cannot stay patient since their cash is tied up. A millionaire likes to appear somewhat dumb with their liquidity. This will help them become smart with their choices.
5. They ignore motivational content
It can be surprising for many people. We take for granted that affluent guys listen to podcasts. They also go through self-help publications.
The reality is that a person will not go through motivational content to that extent once they become rich. According to many of them, motivation can be distracting. It provides you with the dopamine hit of progress without the genuine effort.
They will hire a negotiator rather than listen to a podcast about negotiation. They will purchase a property instead of reading a journal about real estate. They understand that going through content regarding success isn’t the same as performing the work.
6. They kill their own ideas
We have been instructed to nurture every spark of inspiration. However, a millionaire does exactly the opposite. They make an attempt to kill their own ideas within a short time.
They do not become excited when a new business idea comes to their minds. On the other hand, they list the reasons why it is going to fail. Most folks fall in love with their own ideas and try to make them work. On the contrary, a millionaire is going to kill the bad ideas early. It provides them with the energy and capital for any idea that survives their own scepticism.
Is there any habit in the above-mentioned list that makes you feel uncomfortable? It will probably be the one you should start with.
