The Sky Doesn’t Explain Its Colors – And Neither Should You

What a sunset taught me about healing without justification
Last evening, I stood outside and watched the sky change.
It went from pale blue to soft gold to deep, burning orange – and then, just before dark, it turned a shade of purple I don’t have a name for. It didn’t ask anyone if that was okay. It didn’t explain why it chose those colors. It just did what it needed to do, and then it was gone.
And I thought – when did I forget how to do that?
We spend so much energy justifying how we feel. Apologizing for our sadness. Explaining our silence. Making our pain sound reasonable enough for others to accept. As if our emotions need to pass some kind of test before they’re allowed to exist.
But the sky never does that. It doesn’t say, “I’m going red because the sun is at a low angle and light is scattering through more atmosphere.” It just burns. Quietly. Completely. And then lets it go.
🌅 The Colors Don’t Last – But They’re Real
A sunset only stays for minutes. That doesn’t make it less true. Your grief, your anxiety, your loneliness – they’re real, even if they don’t last forever. You don’t have to hold onto them to prove they mattered.
🌫 The Sky Doesn’t Stay One Color
It shifts. Constantly. So do you. You are allowed to be angry and then okay. Devastated and then almost fine. You’re not inconsistent – you’re alive.
🌑 Even the Dark Has Its Place
After the colors comes the night. And the sky doesn’t resist it. Darkness isn’t failure – it’s just part of the cycle. You don’t have to perform healing. Sometimes the most honest thing is simply being in the dark, quietly, until morning decides to come.
☀️ It Will Change Again – It Always Does
Tomorrow evening, the sky will do it all over again. Different colors, same courage. That’s the promise nature keeps without ever saying a word. And somewhere inside you, that same quiet rhythm exists too.
You don’t owe anyone an explanation for the way you color the sky of your own life.
Just let it burn. Let it shift. Let it go dark when it needs to.
The dawn always comes back – gentle, unhurried, and completely sure of itself.
So will you.
