Representative Anna V. Eskamani To Host First Ever Persian New Year Party in the Florida Capitol

The Elected Iranian-American is Excited to Share Her Culture with Others at the State Capitol

Tallahassee, FL — Representative Anna V. Eskamani is proud to be the first Iranian-American elected to any public office in Florida. In Iran, the new year begins with the advent of spring, and most everyone in the country — not to mention the millions of Iranians and non-Iranians who celebrate the holiday elsewhere around the world — observe it by doing a deep clean of their homes, celebrating a season of new life, jumping over fire, and wishing for good luck in the year ahead.

Millions celebrate the Persian New Year, or Nowruz (prounced “no-rooz”). This year for the first time ever, a celebration to mark the Persian New Year will be held at the Florida Capitol! Scheduled for March 28th from 11:30am-1:00pm on the 22nd Floor, news about the event has already created a buzz, with a save-the-date Facebook event attracting more than 200 people who have expressed interest in attending.

“Norooz was a big part of my life growing up,” said Representative Eskamani. “As the first Iranian-American elected to any public office in Florida, it is my duty to help bridge cultural divides and share our traditions with others. What better way to do that than celebrating the Persian New Year through food, music, and dance?”

The Iranian Student Association at FSU will be volunteering their time to help host the event, and Under Wraps will serve as the caterer of Persian cuisine. Those interested in attending are encouraged to save the date, and watch the Facebook event for more details.
