Checking Your Garden

It’s a tricky thing, to know what’s exactly in your garden. Seeds are planted in the darkness of soil, and how would we know if it’s working, until peeks through and rises to the occasion.

What is a seed?

A seed also known as an embryo, holds three very special components.

The Embryo: “The tiny undeveloped plant consisting of a root, stem, and one or two leaves.”

Endosperm (the food store): “Tissue containing starch, fat, and protein that nourishes the embryo during germination.”

Seed Coat: “A tough outer layer that protects the internal embryo from pests, physical damage, and environmental stress before germination.”

Flour used for cooking and baking, is grounded seeds from grains, such as wheat and rye.

Oatmeal, which is processed oat seeds, and nuts.

Barries, that animals indulge in, like Bears, Squirrels, Insects.

And for our aquatic plants, Wild Rice and Water-Lilies, often consumed by Ducks and Geese.

Energy is held inside these seeds listed above.

These seed-making plants, can be labeled into two groups.

Gymnosperms, also known as “Naked Seeds” which come from trees that keep their leaves all year round. Conifers hold this trait. These are cone-bearing trees, in which the seed forms between the scales of a cone or in a berrylike cup.

Angiosperms are seeds that evolve within sacs also known as ovaries. During that process a fleshy fruit or nut like structure encases the seed. which come from trees that bloom in the spring and lose their leaves in the fall. Those trees are called Deciduous trees.

There are many types of seeds for a multitude of purposes. The definition holds another meaning as well. Funnily enough some of the terms used with plant seeds are used for the reproductive parts of human beings and a part of the process of making a baby.

Even the very word seed it’s self, ovaries, sacs, sperm, and more.

A seed is planted into the ovaries. The seed traveling from the male to the female ovaries. Once the seed grabs hold of it’s home, it begins the process of forming a baby.

Every Season has a incredible purpose and with each one everything must run it’s course. I’ve been told many times that, even though it’s not seen doesn’t mean it’s not happening.

From our mother’s womb, we’ve been absorbing all that was sent our way, whether we liked it or not.

That’s why many mother’s have certain practices and set a multitude of boundaries during pregnancy.

Now in adulthood it’s our job to filter what we consume.

There will be a very important question you must ask yourself.

Am I ready to be a gardener?

Checking your garden will be a very challenging task and it’ll ask of you many demands.

It’ll require patience, strength and most importantly, bravery.

You’ll find plants that are beautiful and fruitful, as well as some that are unfavourable and invasive. Either one has been planted by you or someone else, and you get to determine what must stay, and what must go.

Upon doing a deep dive into my own garden. I’ve noticed the trees deeply rooted from my childhood and the flowers scattered around from my teenage years and now laid before me, fresh untouched soil and my tools by my side.

It’s quite intimidating how vast your garden can become. That’s why most people shy away from acknowledging it at all.

Once you start, you’ll notice every single thing, causing a lot of people to stop midway. You will have moments of deep frustration and some of joy, and some plants you’ll be very proud of and others of disappointment.

You’ll find that people have planted their own seeds within your garden. Some of you’ll value and others you’ll gladly rip it out of the ground.

I saw a video that explained that there are different types of people in your life.

The leaf people, they come and go with each season.

The branch people, they seem strong and stable but apply too much pressure, and they break.

Finally you have your root people. Their the ones that stand with you no matter the weather and help keep you grounded.

Realizing which category the people in your life reside in, is apart of your gardening journey.

As you trek this path, I’d like to plant a seed of my own.

You have everything you need, stored inside of you. You’re the only who can tend to your garden in the way that is required.

I know this is a scary task, however I truly believe you’re brave enough to check your garden.
