On January 17, 1950, 11 men carried out what would become one of the most meticulously planned heists in American history. In just 20 minutes, they stole more than $1.2 million in cash and over $1.5 million in checks and securities from a Brink’s security building in Boston’s North End.

From the outside, the operation looked almost flawless.

Seven members of the gang entered the Brink’s building wearing Halloween masks, peacoats, gloves, and chauffeur caps to conceal their identities. The remaining accomplices had carefully assigned roles as getaway drivers and lookouts.

Inside, terrified employees were restrained and forced to the ground as the thieves emptied the facility in what seemed like an unstoppable, coordinated strike.

On the night of the robbery, everything unfolded exactly as planned. One member of the group even established an alibi by dining out with a Boston police officer while the heist took place nearby!

For years, the case went cold. There were no arrests, no solid leads, and no evidence linking the men to the crime.

It began to look like the “perfect crime.” But it didn’t last forever.

Six years later, in 1956, investigators finally began connecting the dots. Just days before the statute of limitations expired, the entire operation began to unravel…
