Good Games First, Then Blockchain: The Formula Behind Our $200 ARPPU
At Korea’s 5th Web3 Gaming Conference, NEXUS’s head of game business made a case that runs against the last cycle’s playbook — the chain doesn’t carry a weak game; a good game carries the chain.

Why fundamentals come first
For years, much of web3 gaming was built backwards. Token incentives sat at the center, and the game itself became a wrapper around a reward loop. When the incentives cooled, the players left with them, and an entire wave of projects emptied out.
Jun-young Jeon, NEXUS’s head of game business, flips that order. Retention, depth, and a loop players genuinely want to return to come first. Tokenomics is what compounds that engagement once it already exists. As he framed it, a good game has to ship before the chain can show results — without the game, there is nothing for the chain to amplify.
What four years of the market taught us
The talk traced the arc from 2022 to 2026: the speculative bubble, the reshuffle that followed, and the slow rebuild of a market that relearned to value playability over reward charts. The lesson across that stretch was consistent. Incentive-first design produced spikes, not staying power. The titles that survived were the ones worth playing on their own terms.
That reframing is the foundation for everything Gamechain has built since.
Proof in production: SealM and Rohan2
The strongest part of the case wasn’t theory — it was live titles. SealM and Rohan2 are established web2 games that moved on-chain, rather than launching as token experiments from scratch. They arrived with existing players, proven systems, and real content depth, and the on-chain layer was added on top of that foundation.
The figure Jeon highlighted: average spend of roughly $200 per paying player, with a meaningful share of revenue flowing through on-chain webshops. That number matters because it isn’t a payout handed out to attract a crowd — it’s players choosing to spend inside games they already enjoy. Monetization that holds up like this is the signal that a fundamentals-first model works in practice, not just on a slide.
This is the formula “solved twice” — once with SealM, again with Rohan2 — evidence that the approach repeats across different titles instead of depending on a single breakout.
Where the formula goes next
The roadmap Jeon outlined extends the same logic in three directions.
AI agents. Titles like Claw Royale bring AI-native players and agents into the loop, expanding how games are played and operated rather than bolting automation on at the edges.
Stablecoin payments. Payment rails built directly into the experience cut friction for players and give developers cleaner economics, without asking anyone to navigate the usual on-chain hurdles.
Mainnet 2.0. The “Breakpoint” upgrade to Gamechain’s mainnet is the infrastructure layer meant to carry the next stage of growth — more titles, more players, and heavier on-chain activity.
Each of these only pays off on top of games people actually want to play. The order never changes.
Good games first, then the chain
The center of gravity in web3 gaming is shifting — from “what can the token do” to “is the game good enough to deserve one.” Jeon’s argument, and the numbers behind it, is that once a game clears that bar, the chain turns that engagement into real, repeatable revenue for the games and the studios building them.
Good games first. Then the chain delivers.
