DCCBA BHM 2026
Thank you, Sister **Alethia O’Hara-Stephenson, for truly embodying the title of your book and being a ‘Distinctive Leader.’ I deeply appreciated being present, as Chair of the York Region Alliance of African-Canadian Communities ([YRAACC](https://www.linkedin.com/preload/#)), attending the [Dufferin County Canadian Black Association](https://www.facebook.com/DufferinCCBA/)’s (DCCBA) 6th Annual Black History Month Celebration in [The Town of Shelburne_ON](https://www.linkedin.com/preload/#)**.
It was inspiring to see the historic photographs displayed throughout Grace Tipling Hall, including the powerful image commemorating the **№2 Construction Battalion**. Opening with a thoughtful land and ancestral acknowledgement set a meaningful and respectful tone for the entire program.
Thank you, **Moy Fung**, for your skillful role as MC and for guiding us so smoothly through the afternoon’s rich program. Ezra Mitchell grounded us beautifully with a heartfelt rendition of O Canada, helping to centre the room in unity and purpose.
It was also encouraging to witness the strong support from the community and political leaders, including Deputy Premier and MPP **Sylvia Jones, [Town of Orangeville](https://www.linkedin.com/preload/#) Mayor [Lisa Post](https://www.linkedin.com/preload/#), [Township of Southgate](https://www.linkedin.com/preload/#) Councillor Joan John, Shelburne Mayor [Wade Mills](https://www.linkedin.com/preload/#), and Shelburne Councillor [Len Guchardi](https://www.linkedin.com/preload/#). Their presence underscored the importance of this celebration and the ongoing work of DCCBA in the [County of Dufferin](https://www.linkedin.com/preload/#)**.
The “Silent Roots” video (https://lnkd.in/gsuwaUQ7) by the **Museum of Dufferin powerfully highlights the stories of the first Black settlers and their profound impact on the development of Melancthon Township, reminding us of the resilience, entrepreneurship, and courage that built these communities. The music and cultural performances, from Revelation Worship Centre, Richie C and Dianne James, and the drumming and dance of Ankhoden, Brother [Kofi Morris](https://www.linkedin.com/preload/#)**’ group, were uplifting and created a vibrant atmosphere of joy and pride.
**Master T’s inspiring journey from a young immigrant to a pioneering MuchMusic VJ and media personality offered a powerful message about perseverance, representation, and the importance of telling our own stories. It was also a pleasure to reconnect with [Kevin Junor](https://www.linkedin.com/preload/#)** and to meet Southgate Deputy Mayor Barbara Dobreen, further strengthening relationships across our communities.
Thank you for curating such an enriching experience of culture, history, and community through music, storytelling, and shared reflection. I wish DCCBA continued success and look forward to future opportunities for collaboration in advancing equity, inclusion, and Black excellence across our regions.
