We get Money to Get Money

A few months ago I sat down and asked myself a question that’s followed me through five years of humanitarian work: why does a good transaction so often leave one side richer and the other side quietly worse off?

I kept thinking about something that felt almost too simple to write down. When a man in Manhattan learns to play the violin, someone in Bamenda picks up a guitar the same week and feels the same clumsy hope. When a woman in Calcutta finds real peace after years of practice, a man in Afghanistan stumbles into something similar, with no teacher at all. We are, in some quiet way, one thing learning and growing together.

So I wrote a book about what that means for how we sell, price, and serve each other. It’s called We Get Money to Get Money: A Philosophy of Shared Prosperity in Business and in Being.

The core idea is simple: whatever you sell, whether it’s your time, your skill, or your product, should leave the person who bought it more able to reach their own goals, not less. Not charity. Not undercharging. Just business built on the honest belief that your client’s success and yours were never really two separate things.

It draws on years of administrative assistant, human resource, procurement, logistics, and finance work across ALIMA and CRS/PEPFAR, Rhema Care/IRC and on living in a region that has taught me, the hard way, what happens when people stop believing an exchange can benefit both sides.
