Southeast Asian Values, Sports Jam, and the 107th Anniversary of PWU

Reflecting on my experience as an audience member during the Sports Jam and the PWU 107th Anniversary Celebration, I was deeply moved by the sense of community and togetherness that filled the event. As I watched the volleyball games, I observed not only the players’ athletic skills but also the strong bonds of cooperation and respect among them. The teams cheered each other on, and even competitors exchanged smiles and encouraging words, demonstrating unity in diversity and a genuine spirit of sportsmanship. The audience, too, was welcoming and supportive, celebrating every point regardless of which team scored, which truly embodied the Southeast Asian value of hospitality. Throughout the week-long celebration, I saw how these values of community spirit, cooperation, respect, unity in diversity, hospitality, and cultural pride were not just abstract concepts but lived realities. The event brought together people from different backgrounds, yet everyone was united in their excitement and pride for the university and its traditions. This experience helped me appreciate how such values contribute to a harmonious and vibrant society. It reminded me that, whether on the court or in the crowd, each person’s participation strengthens the fabric of our community and keeps cultural values alive.
