While the official narrative blames the war in the Middle East, the painful reality is sitting right there in the price breakdown. Out of the Rs. 399.86 you pay for a litre, a massive Rs. 153.55 is just taxes and levies! The government is collecting over Rs. 100 just as a petroleum levy, on top of customs duties and a “climate support levy.” This isn’t about global oil shocks anymore; it’s about a local fiscal shock.
