The government has done it again. Just when we thought the inflation monster couldn’t get any uglier, petrol crosses the Rs. 400 mark. While the official narrative blames the war in the Middle East, the painful reality is sitting right there in the price breakdown. Out of the Rs. 399.86 you pay for a litre, a massive Rs. 153.55 is just taxes and levies! The government is collecting over Rs. 100 just as a petroleum levy, on top of customs duties and a “climate support levy.” This isn’t about global oil shocks anymore; it’s about a local fiscal shock. The IMF wants its targets met, and the common man is paying the price.
