Jorge Figueira is a photographer, born in Espinho, Portugal. He travels with his camera always by his side, capturing the most significant moments life offers him. For Jorge, photography is not just a passion; it is his language, his way of understanding the world.

We first sat down with Jorge on an ordinary day at Prata. He sat quietly with his laptop at his office, his eyes scanning the scene, his posture composed yet ready to move. When we asked, “Jorge, who are you?” his face softened into a gentle smile. It was a smile filled with stories, with memories, with dreams that lingered just beyond the horizon.

He paused, his gaze drifting somewhere far away. Perhaps Jorge isn’t a man of many words, but his silence speaks volumes. After a moment, he answered, “I could say I’ve been naïve all my life… letting go of opportunities. VIC is my final project. I don’t want to retire. I want to leave a mark.”

His voice trembled, revealing a vulnerability hidden behind his rugged exterior. “I know my age… my limit is 72 years of work. Money is important… but only to buy more time to capture life through my lens.” His words hung in the air, heavy with emotion, echoing the quiet determination of a man who sees the world differently.

Jorge’s journey with photography began not with joy, but with loss. “In November 1977, my father passed away in Saudi Arabia. Among his belongings was his camera. During a holiday in Viseu, my mother’s hometown, I took my first photo — a spider.”

That moment was the beginning of something profound. “Since then, I haven’t stopped,” Jorge whispered, his voice carrying the weight of decades. “I’ve had eight group exhibitions, nine individual ones… mostly black and white because color, there is so much color in balck and white It’s too many emotions, too many stories colliding.”

He paused, reflecting on the roads not taken, the dreams left behind. “I missed a lot of opportunities because I was afraid to take risks. I was too busy taking care of others, forgetting about myself.” In that moment, we understood — Jorge doesn’t just take photos; he captures memories, preserving pieces of himself in every frame.

Finding Purpose at Prata

“Prata has given me stability… not just in work but in my soul.” Jorge’s connection to Prata is more than just a job. It is his anchor, his purpose. “I never thought I’d find a place where I belong, where people respect me not just for my work but for who I am.”

Through Jorge’s Eyes: A World Seen Differently

“I see things differently… Sometimes I see a spot, and I keep coming back to it. I can travel all the way to the Algarve just for 8 hours to capture a moment, a feeling, a breath.”
