We Mistake Our Community for the Whole World

And Never Realize How Much We’ll Never See

I’m traveling right now, just sitting among strangers and one thought keeps coming back again and again how small our “world” actually is. We think we’re living in something big. A whole world full of people, places, stories. But if I’m honest, most of us only ever live inside a small circle. The people we know. The streets we recognize. The same faces we keep seeing every day. And slowly, that becomes everything for us. But outside that circle, life is still going on countless neighborhoods, countless cities, all filled with people living their own normal days. People waking up, going to work, dealing with problems, chasing small hopes, feeling tired, feeling happy, feeling lost just like us. Different names, different places… but somehow, the same kind of life underneath it all. And it makes you realize something simple but strange no matter who someone is, powerful or ordinary, rich or struggling, they are still just living inside their own small world. A world shaped by what they see, who they know, and what surrounds them. We start believing that what we experience every day is the whole picture. But it’s not. Right now, someone somewhere is having dinner with their family. Someone else is sitting alone on a journey, thinking about things they can’t explain to anyone. And someone, somewhere, is just trying to get through the day quietly.

None of them know about us. Just like we don’t know about them.

“It’s all happening at the same time… but completely separate”

That’s what travel makes you feel. Not just new places, but the realization that your life is only one small frame in something much bigger. We confuse what’s familiar with what’s real. And we call that our world. But maybe it’s much simpler than we think. We don’t live in the whole world. We only live in the part we’ve been allowed to see. And everything else… keeps going without needing us to notice it.
