Jupiter into Leo & Other Stories

Forest Life: the forest around me is recovering from mining armageddon 150 years ago. It’s magnificent, even though not as much as it once was. It’s where I go to connect to my inner voice. Taken with my old iPhone.

This is not my usual post (it’s a quick read).

There are so many astrologers chiming in on the big astrology coming up in the next month. There are so many offerings, the space looks so crowded.

What I want to say is — listen to your inner voice and stand in your truth, the truth you know in your heart, in your body. Let it be your guide, your inner compass.

Let me also share a few thoughts on the key themes and symbolism — I hope it will help you make sense of it all.

Looking at your chart, especially the Leo part of it. Let’s figure it out together.

But first I want to say thank you; thank you for being here and thank you for your comments, subscriptions, shares and follows. I really do appreciate it.

There’s something I got into the habit of doing in the last year — I say the name of each one of you (when I get a notification that someone new has joined, subscribed or followed) and I say a little thank you, and a welcome. A small thing. I guess it helps me to keep you in mind when I’m writing. Human to human. For the obvious reasons this seems more important than ever these days.

The Leo part of your chart, where is it?

On June 29 and 30 as Mars crossed the threshold into Gemini and started making alignments to Uranus, Neptune and Pluto.

The following morning there’s a full moon in Capricorn, Mercury turns retrograde then later that day Jupiter enters Leo. So that’s three planets making a definite shift by the first day of July.

As Jupiter moves into the sextile chain pattern it seems likely things will start moving ahead faster. I can’t remember where/who said it; a series of sextiles is like a train.

If so then Jupiter is the engine pulling it forward. It opposes Pluto at first so perhaps gaining traction will take time.

What are your thoughts on this basket everyone is talking about?

The way its spread around one side of the zodiac its very likely at least one of these configurations will impact you.

Look at the two big trines; Jupiter and Neptune have the hallmarks of delusion and grandiosity. Alternatively, absolutely wonderful for a creative project. One with courage and heart.

Pluto and Uranus could be a spark of inspiration, especially for writers and content makers.

If you have been silenced may you find the courage to speak, to empower your authentic voice. And stand in your truth because this is when the small is made large and the large is reduced to ash.

This rather glorious configuration waxes and wanes for more than a year, but there is lots of action from now through to the end of the year especially heading into eclipse season mid August just as the nodes ingress into fixed signs.

Pay attention to the Jupiter Cazimi on 30 July at 6 Leo.

And the interesting-ominous rendezvous with Jupiter, Mars and the Lunar South Node in mid November. The train is derailing by the looks of it.

Then Jupiter retrogrades at 27 Leo in mid December, followed by Mars, so this group will be sticking together through 2027.

I can’t help seeing Mercury as a tug boat that shunts the ginormous Jupiter ship over the boarder into the Sun’s domain, out of Cancer. Mercury then turns around to head back to port for a rendezvous with the Sun.

Jupiter looses some dignity, but will love that lion energy right?

Jupiter is a big planet, and has a reputation for inflating, expanding or amplifying, yet there is much more to Jupiter than this.

Perhaps this bigness that is Jupiter is a bit over-rated. Yes the irony.

I’m thinking about the Sun-ruled sign’s idealism and pride, neither of these virtues are good when overdone. For those of us who need to look in the mirror more often and admire our magnificence and purr adoringly at ourselves it will feel wonderful.

Jupiter is traditionally the greater benefic — actually a technical term that doesn’t always mean good things. It mostly means it can mitigate any negative planets that might be nearby, and especially aspects to fixed signs. Jupiter is usually a positive influence. But not always.

One or two things to watch out for.

  1. As above, especially when Jupiter makes a trine to Neptune simultaneous with an opposition to Pluto around mid July. This has a beautiful, incredible charisma, talent, style and courage so I see this as a flowering for creatives, especially music, film, performance, the arts in general. Showing off in general. The danger is the delusion that comes from Neptune leading to something stupid. I see implications for cult-like mass hysterical delusions requiring you to be very discerning about what you buy into.

  2. Remember that Jupiter loses dignity. That could mean that water signs feel out of their element. Out of their cozy nest of belonging, safety and nurturing. Leo’s fire and brimstone might be too dramatic, too loud, too much. I loved the fertility and familiarity of the Moon exalted Jupiter, but now the gestation is over. It’s time to be seen.

  3. Mercury Rx says there’s still much to be processed, remembered, gathered, buried. It could be a nostalgic, dreamy trip this Mercury cycle, especially the synodic reset — the Cazimi on the 13 July. I’m thinking how attached we are in our Cancer place/Moon sign. I don’t mean our dear precious things, our loved ones. I’m thinking of the things we are nurturing that are not good for us anymore.

Yes, the stuff, the detritus of familiar sentimental things that are gathering dust or taking up space that you now need for other things, to move ahead.

And also worn out beliefs; ethics, ideals, world views, religions or politics, that might not apply anymore in this new terrain. Do you really believe in them or did someone else tell you to?

The storage closets of our minds and bodies are full of stale and useless clutter that we can’t seem to let go of.

Here’s a little story. A long time ago a Cancer friend whose mother had passed away, inherited some of her furniture, but in particular the parts of an antique chair. The chair she died on. He had carried them halfway around the world, from England to New Zealand.

We took the pieces to the beach one mid-winter day and we made a pyre and burnt them. The tide came in and washed aways the ashes. I think he felt lighter and more free. I hope so.

  1. Jupiter and Leo/lion themes often relate to spectacle, drama and idealism. There is nothing quite so statement as a big golden lion. Either you or someone you know could embody this theme in your life. It isn’t necessarily narcissistic, it could be pure entertainment.

It could be well-intentioned, heartfelt even, or alternatively it could be ego without substance. Performance without authenticity — a bit phoney, meaningless, empty or vain.

So I mentioned pride and vanity. Sometimes we call it narcissism. Do you have a cat? They have the superior demeanour like big cats naturally do. Can we channel our inner big cat for that confidence and self-expression? With our human capacity for empathy and kindness? To balance the urge to control with leadership, agility and creativity?

Or ego lessons will ensue, you can count on it.

Everyday I sit down with my journal and write out the day’s Moon position and any other alignments. This is the way I feel guided and ready. This practice is essential not just for learning, but for the ongoing self-enquiry and healing available when we take the time to listen to our inner voice.

Journal Prompts

What is meaningful to you right now?

How might that shift and change with this ingress?

What is your world view?

Describe your ethics or politics — how does it shape your idealism, self-expression?

Thank you for taking the time to read this, please feel free to comment — do you have anything esle to add? and please share, clap, etc I would love that.
