I Used to Pray For Times Like This

The stage lights enveloped him in their strong steady beams. Their warmth spread from his closed eyelids to the ends of his hair to the tips of his fingers. He basked in the feeling for a moment before opening his eyes. A night sky of phone lights greeted him. He began to speak.

“Being here is more than I could have ever dreamed of. Ever even dared dream of, and it comes down to your support. To all the fans, I salute you!”

The crowd erupted with whistles and applause.

“But most of all I want to thank my girlfriend. She’s held me down through thick and thin. It’ll be our five year anniversary in two days and this last song’s for her. I love you Angel!”

He collapsed into a sofa in the dressing room and pulled out his phone. He had one text.

“We need to talk.”

Thanks for reading! This piece was inspired by an old song that my dad played for me once, 我終於失去了妳 by 趙傳 (Chao Chuan). The title translates in English to “At Last I Have Lost You”.
