Using a GM HEI module on a Datsun distributor
The Datsun 240Z, 260Z, 280Z and 280ZX are often fitted with an electronic distributor with a “matchbox” ignition module. Finding a replacement for the original ignition module when it fails can be very difficult.
To get around this a GM 4 wire HEI Module can be used as a replacement.
The original ignition module will have two wires(Green and Red)
To fit a GM module as a replacement the following should be used:
GM Module pinout:
W — Red pickup wire from the Datsun distributor
G — Green pickup wire from the Datsun distributor
C- Connect this to the negative side of the coil
B- Connect this to a switched 12V + signal
It is worth noting that a conductive thermal paste must be used in order to mount the GM module, as its body is chassis ground.

A custom heatsink mounted to an original datsun distributor. The HEI module is then attached to the heatsink.
