The 2 AM Call
Three weeks ago, my phone rang at 1:47 AM. A client’s Meta account had gone from $800/day to $8,400/day in 4 hours. Advantage+ had found a “optimization opportunity” and was spending their monthly budget in a weekend. Their ROAS had collapsed from 3.2x to 0.4x. They were hemorrhaging.
I logged in. One setting: Advantage+ Budget was set to “Daily” instead of “Lifetime” for a 3-day sale campaign. The algorithm, seeing high early engagement, had accelerated spend to “capture demand.” It captured bankruptcy instead.
I paused the campaign in 90 seconds. Fixed the setting. Restarted with a cost cap. Saved the remaining $12,000 of their monthly budget. Back to sleep by 2:15 AM.
Platform nightmares don’t schedule appointments. They strike at launch, at scale, at the worst possible moment. Today — Q&A Sunday #3 — I’m in the comments for 12 hours with the emergency playbook. But first, the 18 nightmares I’ve lived through so you don’t have to.
Week 3 Recap: Platform Mastery in 7 Days
| Day | Topic | Your New Weapon |
| --- | -------------------------- | -------------------------------------------- |
| 15 | Google Ads 2026 | Conversion Value Rules, PMax optimization |
| 16 | Meta Advantage+ | EMQ scoring, creative buffet, signal feeding |
| 17 | TikTok for B2B | Spark Ads, founder monologues, B2B arbitrage |
| 18 | LinkedIn for High-Ticket | Committee targeting, InMail orchestration |
| 19 | Managing 40+ Accounts | Dashboard stack, AI tools, SOP library |
| 20 | Cross-Platform Attribution | MMM + MTA + incrementality framework |
Community by the numbers:
- 847 total comments across Week 3
- 134 LinkedIn DMs with platform emergencies
- 52 Instagram voice notes with “HELP” in the first 3 seconds
- 23 emergency audits conducted via screen share
The #1 realization: Most platform “disasters” are single-setting errors that compound into catastrophe. The fix is usually 30 seconds. Finding it takes 3 hours if you don’t know where to look.
The 18 Platform Nightmares (And the 2 AM Fixes)
NIGHTMARE 1: Meta Advantage+ Spend Explosion
Symptom: Daily spend 5–10x normal. ROAS collapses. Budget burned in hours.
Causes:
| Cause | Diagnosis | Fix |
| ------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------- | --------------------------------------------- |
| **Daily vs. Lifetime budget** | Campaign set to "Daily" with no cost cap | Switch to "Lifetime" or add cost cap |
| **Learning phase exit** | Algorithm found "high-value" audience that's actually bots | Pause. Audit traffic quality. Add exclusions. |
| **Auction overlap** | Multiple ASC campaigns bidding against each other | Consolidate to one campaign |
| **Attribution window mismatch** | 1-day view claiming credit for organic traffic | Switch to 7-day click only for reporting |
My 2 AM fix: Pause immediately. Check Campaign → Budget → “Lifetime” vs. “Daily.” Add cost per result cap at 150% of target CPA. Resume. Audit in morning.
NIGHTMARE 2: Google Ads PMax Serving to Brand Search
Symptom: PMax campaign shows 80% of spend on “Search: Brand.” Your branded search campaign dies. PMax claims credit for organic demand.
The problem: PMax includes Search placements. It will cannibalize your branded search if you don’t exclude it.
Fix:
- Campaign Settings → Search Themes → Remove brand terms
- Negative Keyword List: Create “Brand Negatives” list
- Apply to PMax: Add brand name, misspellings, URL variations
- Separate Branded Search: Run dedicated Search campaign for brand terms
NIGHTMARE 3: TikTok Pixel Double-Firing
Symptom: TikTok dashboard shows 2x actual conversions. CPA looks amazing. Bank account disagrees.
Cause: TikTok Pixel installed via GTM AND native Shopify app AND manual code.
Fix:
- Audit all installation methods
- Choose ONE: GTM (recommended) or native integration
- Remove all others
- Test with TikTok Pixel Helper extension
NIGHTMARE 4: LinkedIn InMail Frequency Fatigue
Symptom: InMail response rate drops from 15% to 2% in 2 weeks. Unsubscribes spike.
Cause: Same audience receiving multiple InMails. LinkedIn’s frequency cap is per campaign, not per account.
Fix:
- Build global exclusion list: “InMailed Last 30 Days”
- Apply to ALL campaigns
- Frequency cap: 1 InMail per 30 days per user
- Rotate creative monthly
NIGHTMARE 5: Meta CAPI Event Match Quality Crash
Symptom: EMQ drops from 9/10 to 3/10 overnight. CPM doubles. Delivery stalls.
Causes:
| Cause | Fix |
| ----------------------- | ---------------------------------------------- |
| Server IP changed | Update Events Manager with new server IP |
| iOS update broke cookie | Implement first-party cookie workaround |
| Access token expired | Regenerate in Events Manager |
| Parameter name changed | Audit server-side GTM for field mapping errors |
My EMQ emergency audit:
□ client_ip_address: Present and correct?
□ client_user_agent: Raw, not modified?
□ em: Lowercase, SHA256, valid format?
□ ph: Stripped non-numeric, +country code?
□ fbc: From URL parameter or cookie?
□ fbp: From first-party cookie, not expired?
□ event_time: Unix seconds, not milliseconds?
□ action_source: "website" (not "email" or "physical_store")?
NIGHTMARE 6: Google Ads Conversion Action Double-Counting
Symptom: Google Ads shows 2x actual conversions. Smart Bidding goes crazy.
Cause: Same conversion counted by both website tag AND imported from Analytics AND imported from CRM.
Fix:
- Tools & Settings → Conversions
- Check “Source” column for each action
- If duplicate sources: Pause one. Consolidate.
- Use “Include in Conversions” for ONE primary action only
NIGHTMARE 7: TikTok Account Ban
Symptom: Account suspended. All campaigns paused. No explanation.
Common causes:
- Landing page violates policy (misleading claims, prohibited products)
- Creative violates policy (before/after, exaggerated results)
- Payment method flagged
- Unusual spend pattern triggers fraud detection
Fix:
- Check email for specific policy violation
- Fix landing page or creative
- Submit appeal with evidence of compliance
- For payment: Verify card, add backup method
- Prevention: Run all landing pages through TikTok’s Policy Checker before launch
NIGHTMARE 8: Meta Account Spending Limit Hit
Symptom: Campaigns stop delivering mid-day. “Account spending limit reached.”
The trap: Meta has TWO limits:
- Campaign budget: What you set
- Account spending limit: What Meta sets based on payment history
Fix:
- Billing → Payment Settings → Account Spending Limit
- Request increase (takes 24–48 hours)
- Prevention: Pay bills early. Build payment history. Request proactive increases before scale.
NIGHTMARE 9: Google Ads Quality Score Collapse
Symptom: CPC jumps 300%. Ad rank drops to page 2. Impressions vanish.
Causes:
| Component | Score Drop Cause | Fix |
| --------------------------- | ----------------------------------- | -------------------------------------- |
| **Expected CTR** | Creative fatigue, low relevance | Refresh ads, test new headlines |
| **Ad Relevance** | Keyword-ad mismatch | Tighten ad groups, use keywords in ads |
| **Landing Page Experience** | Slow load, high bounce, poor mobile | Speed audit, message match, mobile UX |
My 24-hour recovery:
- Day 1: Pause low-QS keywords (<5). Write 3 new ads per ad group.
- Day 2: Launch. Monitor QS daily.
- Day 3: If QS <5 persists, rebuild ad group with tighter theme.
NIGHTMARE 10: LinkedIn Matched Audience Not Delivering
Symptom: Matched Audience campaign shows “Audience too small” or zero impressions.
Causes:
- List upload ❤00 matched members (LinkedIn minimum)
- List stale (>90 days old)
- Company names don’t match LinkedIn’s database
- Targeting layered too narrowly (job title + company list + seniority)
Fix:
- Upload list of 1,000+ companies or 10,000+ contacts
- Use website domains, not company names (better matching)
- Remove additional targeting layers
- Expand to “Similar companies” if list is small
NIGHTMARE 11: Meta Creative Rejected at Scale
Symptom: 60% of new creatives rejected. Campaign can’t exit learning.
Common rejections in 2026:
| Rejection Reason | Fix |
| ---------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Personal attributes** | "Are you struggling with..." → "Many people struggle with..." |
| **Before/after** | No body transformation, no skin condition comparisons |
| **Misleading claims** | "Guaranteed results" → "Past performance" or "Case study" |
| **URL mismatch** | Ad URL must match landing page domain exactly |
| **Low-quality landing page** | No pop-ups, working links, clear business info |
My creative approval protocol:
- Run through Meta’s Text Overlay Check
- Run landing page through Policy Checker
- Submit 3 variants, expect 1 rejection
- Keep 2 approved variants minimum per campaign
NIGHTMARE 12: Google Ads Conversion Tracking Broken After Site Migration
Symptom: Conversions drop to zero after website redesign, platform change, or domain migration.
The checklist:
□ GTM container still firing? (Preview Mode test)
□ Pixel IDs correct? (Often changed in migration)
□ Conversion labels match? (New labels generated?)
□ Thank-you page URL changed? (Trigger conditions broken?)
□ Server-side container pointing to new domain?
□ UTM parameters still capturing?
□ Enhanced Conversions still hashing user data?
My migration protocol: 2-week overlap. Old tracking + new tracking running simultaneously. Compare counts. Only remove old when variance <5%.
NIGHTMARE 13: TikTok Spark Ad Boost Fails
Symptom: “This post cannot be boosted” error. Organic post performing well, but Spark Ad creation blocked.
Causes:
- Post contains music without commercial license
- Post violates TikTok’s Community Guidelines
- Post is too old (>90 days for Spark Ads)
- Account not authorized to boost that post
Fix:
- Use TikTok Commercial Music Library for all organic content
- Review Community Guidelines before posting
- Boost within 30 days of posting
- Ensure Business Center permissions are correct
NIGHTMARE 14: Meta Advantage+ Creative Underperforming
Symptom: 40 assets uploaded. Only 3 getting spend. The rest show “Learning Limited.”
Cause: The algorithm quickly identifies 2–3 “winners” and stops testing others. Creative diversity is lost.
Fix:
- Dynamic Creative: Break into smaller asset groups (5–8 assets each)
- A/B Test: Force even distribution for 7 days
- Refresh: Replace bottom 20% weekly
- Format Diversity: Ensure mix of images, videos, carousels
NIGHTMARE 15: Google Ads PMax Showing Competitor Products
Symptom: PMax serves ads for products you don’t sell. Traffic bounces. Quality score drops.
Cause: Product feed includes broad categories. Algorithm matches to irrelevant searches.
Fix:
- Negative Keywords: Add competitor brand names, irrelevant terms
- Product Feed Optimization: Tighten product_type, google_product_category
- Campaign-Level Exclusions: Exclude products with low margin or high return rate
- Search Terms Report: Weekly review, add negatives
NIGHTMARE 16: LinkedIn Lead Gen Form Fake Emails
Symptom: 40% of lead gen form submissions use @test.com, @gmail.com (fake), or company emails of job seekers.
Fix:
- Email validation: Require business email domain (exclude gmail, yahoo, etc.)
- Custom questions: Add “Company Size” or “Budget Range” as qualifier
- Post-submit verification: Send immediate email, track open/click
- CRM scoring: Auto-reject leads with fake emails or no engagement
NIGHTMARE 17: Cross-Platform Budget Cannibalization
Symptom: Scaling Meta reduces Google performance. Scaling Google reduces Meta. Total revenue flat despite increased spend.
Cause: Same users, same budget, different platforms. You’re paying twice for the same customer.
Fix:
- Exclusion audiences: Upload customer lists to ALL platforms (suppress existing)
- Dayparting: Run platforms at different times if same audience
- Messaging differentiation: Meta = awareness, Google = intent, LinkedIn = enterprise
- Unified measurement: MMM to see true incremental impact (Day 20)
NIGHTMARE 18: The “Everything Looks Fine But Revenue Is Down” Mystery
Symptom: All dashboards green. ROAS stable. CPA normal. But actual revenue (Stripe/bank) is down 30%.
The hidden causes:
| Hidden Issue | How to Find | Fix |
| ------------------------ | ------------------------------------------ | -------------------------------------------- |
| **Returns spike** | Shopify returns report, not ad dashboard | Adjust product quality, sizing, descriptions |
| **Payment failures** | Stripe decline rate | Fix payment processor, retry logic |
| **Discount code abuse** | Coupon usage analytics | Limit codes, unique per user |
| **Fake orders** | High-risk order flags | Fraud detection, address verification |
| **Attribution lag** | Mismatch between click date and order date | Use cohort analysis, not daily reporting |
| **Offline cancellation** | Phone cancellations, chargebacks | CRM tracking, follow-up sequences |
My revenue reconciliation ritual (weekly):
Platform-Claimed Revenue: $X
Stripe Actual Revenue: $Y
Difference: $Z
If difference >15%:
□ Check returns
□ Check payment failures
□ Check discount abuse
□ Check fraud flags
□ Check attribution window mismatch
□ Check offline cancellations
The Emergency Response Protocol
When a platform nightmare strikes, follow this order:
| Minute | Action | Tool |
| ------ | ----------------------------------------------------- | --------------------------- |
| 0-2 | **PAUSE** the campaign or ad set | Platform dashboard |
| 2-5 | **ASSESS** the damage (spend, conversions, ROAS) | Dashboard, analytics |
| 5-15 | **DIAGNOSE** using the nightmare checklist above | This article, platform help |
| 15-30 | **FIX** the root cause (setting, creative, tracking) | Platform settings |
| 30-45 | **TEST** the fix with small budget | \$50-100 test |
| 45-60 | **COMMUNICATE** with client (proactive, not reactive) | Slack, Loom, email |
| 60+ | **DOCUMENT** the incident, add to SOP | Notion, team wiki |
The golden rule: Pause first, diagnose second. Every minute of burning budget is money you can’t recover.
Your Action Plan for Today
- Audit your platform settings against this list. Pick your primary platform. Check the top 3 nightmares for that platform. Comment with your risk level — I’ll tell you what to fix first.
- Build an emergency contact sheet. Platform support numbers, account rep emails, escalation paths. When you’re burning $500/hour, you don’t have time to Google “Meta support.”
- Set up anomaly alerts. Optmyzr, Revealbot, or native platform alerts. Know about problems in minutes, not hours.
- Run a fire drill. Pause a test campaign. Time yourself. How fast can you diagnose and fix? Under 15 minutes is the standard.
Tomorrow: Day 22 — The Art of Upselling
Today you survived the nightmares. Tomorrow, you learn to turn existing clients into bigger retainers.
“The Art of Upselling: How I Convert 30% of My Clients”
I’ll show you:
- The “audit conversation” that naturally leads to scope expansion
- The 3-tier pricing psychology that makes middle tier irresistible
- The “gap analysis” presentation that sells itself
- Why I never pitch upsells — I diagnose problems and let clients ask for solutions
- The exact email that generated $40K in upsell revenue from 8 existing clients
Week 4 is about professional growth. Tomorrow, we grow revenue without growing client count.
Week 4 begins tomorrow. Upselling. The Zebra Effect. Performance reporting. Scaling. AI future. Career positioning. The final sprint.
I’m in the comments for the next 12 hours. Platform emergencies, setting audits, creative rejections — bring them. This is your emergency room.
