Nisum iOS Tech Lead Interview Experience (Jun 19, 2026) | Interview Went Very Well, But Still Waiting for Feedback
I recently interviewed for an iOS Tech Lead position at Nisum, and I wanted to share my experience with the community. Hopefully, this helps anyone preparing for a senior iOS or Tech Lead interview.
Overall, the interview experience was positive. The interviewer was friendly and focused more on understanding my practical experience than asking tricky theoretical questions. It felt like a real technical discussion rather than a rapid-fire Q&A session.
Unfortunately, even though I felt the interview went really well, I haven’t received any feedback yet.

Round 1 — Technical Discussion (Around 60 Minutes)
The interviewer first asked about my current role and responsibilities.
Some of the initial questions were:
- Tell me about yourself.
- What are your responsibilities as a Tech Lead?
- Are you still involved in coding?
- How much time do you spend on development vs leadership?
- How do you manage your team?
They were trying to understand whether I was still a hands-on engineer.
SwiftUI Questions
The interviewer spent a good amount of time on SwiftUI.
Questions included:
- Explain different SwiftUI state property wrappers.
- Difference between
@State,@Binding,@ObservedObject,@StateObject, and@EnvironmentObject. - What is
AnyView? - Why should we avoid using
AnyViewunnecessarily? - How do you implement type-safe navigation?
- How do you manage navigation in SwiftUI?
- What is
NavigationStack? - What is
NavigationPath?
Swift Language Questions
There were several Swift language questions.
Some examples:
- Escaping vs Non-Escaping Closures
- Closure Capture List
- What is Copy-On-Write?
- Is
Dataa value type or reference type? - Struct vs Class
- Memory Management
- ARC
- Retain Cycle
- Weak vs Unowned
- Why can’t we add stored properties in extensions?
- Two-Phase Initialization
- Protocol-Oriented Programming
- Protocol Extensions
- Protocol property requirements
The interviewer was interested in understanding concepts instead of memorized definitions.
Modern Concurrency
This section focused on Swift Concurrency.
Questions included:
- What is Modern Concurrency?
- async/await
- What happens internally when
awaitis executed? - Does
awaitblock the main thread? - Difference between Task and Thread
- MainActor
- Actor
- Why is Actor needed?
- Data Race
One interesting follow-up question was:
Does
awaitblock the thread?
The expected answer was that await suspends the current task, not the thread.
Architecture Questions
A large part of the discussion was around architecture.
Topics included:
- Clean Architecture
- Repository Pattern
- MVVM
- Coordinator Pattern
- Dependency Injection
- Design Patterns
- Protocol-Oriented Programming
The interviewer also asked:
- How do you handle navigation in Clean Architecture?
- Which architecture is more scalable?
- Which architecture is more maintainable?
Design Patterns
They also asked me to categorize design patterns.
I explained:
- Creational Patterns
- Structural Patterns
- Behavioral Patterns
Along with examples from iOS development.
Performance Optimization
Some practical questions included:
- How would you debug a performance issue?
- Which Instruments would you use?
- How do you identify UI lag?
- How do you debug memory issues?
- How do you debug CPU issues?
This part was more about the debugging approach than remembering tool names.
Tech Lead Responsibilities
Since the role was for Tech Lead, many questions were related to leadership.
Examples:
- How do you perform PR reviews?
- What do you check during code review?
- How does the approval process work?
- How do you mentor junior developers?
- What happens if a sprint ticket spills over?
- How do you communicate project risks?
- How do you manage sprint delivery?
The interviewer wanted practical examples from real projects.
System Design Thinking
Some high-level questions included:
- If you start a project from scratch, what functional requirements will you consider?
- What non-functional requirements are important?
- How do you make an application scalable?
- How do you design for maintainability?
Overall Experience
The interview was completely discussion-based.
There were no puzzle questions or unnecessary brain teasers.
The interviewer was interested in:
- Real project experience
- Decision making
- Architecture knowledge
- Swift fundamentals
- Leadership experience
- Communication
If you have worked on production iOS applications and understand the reasoning behind your technical decisions, you’ll likely enjoy this interview.
My Feedback
Overall, I really enjoyed the discussion.
The interviewer was professional and gave enough time to explain my thought process.
I felt confident after the interview because I was able to answer most of the questions with examples from my real project experience.
However, at the time of writing this article, I am still waiting for the interview feedback.
