Medak Fort — A vantage point shared by dynasties

A lazy Sunday afternoon found us looking up unexplored areas. Medak Fort fit the bill. Off we went on state highways and country roads slowly winding up a hillock. 12th century Kakatiyas used the rocky, serpentine terrain to their advantage but 21st century drivers find the sharp hairpin bends tricky.

Weather was pleasant. We were here in 2017. There was no entrance or parking fee. We parked and started the climb. Owing to the time of the day it wasn’t all strenuous. Besides, this place is unexpectedly green and cool. Landscape is admirable. The ruins uphold stories of the bygone past. Wikipedia says three dynasties used this fort as command post. We missed the supposed inscriptions of elephants, tridents on canon and the canon itself. As it was getting dark we did not spend much time exploring the corners.

View from the top is inviting. Light breeze adds to the mood. Remnants of what once was lake stands surrounded by unkempt greenery. Narrow mud paths arched with stone walls and plants provide a cool vista. Steps are short & wide, moss covered and make for a romantic, medieval setting.

One hour is a good time to explore the place. There is a Haritha resort nearby ideally located for beverages & packed refreshments. Food is better left alone. Fort is around 100 Kms from Hyderabad suitable for a quick half day trip.
