Funny Poetry/Prose — Just a South Indian

Hey, I thought I would highlight the funny quirks of South Indians in this hopefully funny poem/prose.

Q: Did you go to therapy as advised by your physician ?

Me: No. I just had really spicy chutney. I think I should be okay.

Q: Did you go to the gym today?

Me: No. I need to have several medu vadas for protein before I can go to gym.

Q: But they contain a lot of oil.

Me: Tasty oil. It’s good for the soul, really.

A medu vada is a popular South Indian deep-fried fritter.

Q: North Indian trying to be smart: “Do you put coconut in everything?” (True story : A North Indian did actually ask me this.)

Me: How dare you? Apologize right away or you will never know what Elaneer and Karikku are.

Elaneer and Karikku are words in Malayalam which is spoken in the south Indian state of Kerala.

Elaneer — Specifically refers to the stage of tender coconut that is ready for drinking (sweet water).

Karikku — The phase right after the tender coconut. The water remains sweet, but the white flesh inside becomes thicker and creamier. Very tasty to eat.

Q: You have to sleep early to get up early tomorrow.

Me: How can I? I didn’t listen to my daily dose of Naakka Mukka.

Naakka Mukka is a popular Tamil song. Tamil is spoken in the south Indian state of Tamil Nadu.
