SHIELD: MVP Release Highlights

Hola Amigos!

This is the second article in the SHIELD release highlight series. In this article, we’ll brief you about the new development in SHIELD. SHIELD v1.0.0 launched today, which is our MVP.

Let us explore what this release has for us & why you’ll be happy to hear about it.

Debug:

One of the most crucial features for any developer is how he can debug the problems in his code. One of the things that were missing for the circom developers was a nice powerful debugger. Circom users could not log the circuits’ values and didn’t have any way to find out why the constraints were failing and at what value.

With the release of SHIELD DEBUG, one can easily log the circuit’s value and find out why the circuit is breaking. Yes, you’re thinking right! You’ll get to know exactly which line is causing the issue and what value is causing the constraint to fail.

This was a major inconvenience for circom developers, which SHIELD is taking care of.

This is also our MVP release, so let’s review what our MVP release has to offer.

MVP RELEASE:

SHIELD provides the following features,

ENVIRONMENT:

• The SHIELD doesn’t require users to pre-install and set up the environment, such as,
• Rust
• Circom
• Snarkjs.

Hence saves a lot of time and energy.

SHIELD INIT:

• Provides a boilerplate with community-defined standards.
• Gives the option to choose a proof system, i.e., either plonk or groth16.
• Gives the option to choose a language, i.e., either javascript or typescript.
• Gives the option to choose a package manager to install dependencies, i.e., either npm or yarn.

SHIELD COMPILE:

• A project initialized with SHIELD doesn’t require users to,
• Write custom scripts to compile the circuits to solidity files.
• Write interfaces of those generated solidity files.

Shield compile does all these task for you and save you time and energy.

SHIELD DEBUG:

• Generates witnesses
• Debugs circuits through CLI
• circom logs
• log input/output signals
• logs constraints
