We Should’ve Never Touched the Ouija Board

The night we caught something on camera — and everything that followed.

My stepdad had just gotten a new camera, and he was obsessed with it. He kept taking random pictures — us eating snacks, catching us off guard, even snapping photos when we were doing something gross like picking out noses. Just messing around. At one point, he took a picture inside my brother’s bedroom — the one closest to the bathroom in our tiny hallway. But when he looked at it, everything changed. There was a brownish-orange cloud in the photo. And it didn’t look like smoke or dust — it looked like it was trying to form a face.

It creeped him out so bad he immediately called all of us in to look at it. We just stood there, staring. Because whatever that was… it looked like a presence. Like something was in the room with us at the exact moment. We didn’t stay in there long. We all kind of had the same reaction — hell no — and walked right back out. Even my brother didn’t want to be in there. At the time, nothing actually happened to us. It was just… weird. Like we had proof that something was around us, even if we couldn’t see it. But that was just the beginning.

When Things Started Getting Worse

Not long after that, we got a new dog. Her name was Lucy. She was big, loud, and honestly kind of a menace — she destroyed everything. But the weird part wasn’t during the day… it was at night. She would wake my mom and stepdad up constantly. Growling, barking, and running around like something was there that we couldn’t see. It got so bad that we eventually had to get rid of her. That’s when my mom started thinking maybe we had let in too many spirits. Anyone who had touched the Ouija board — which was basically all of us. We had to sit in a circle while she did this spiritual cleansing. There were candles, melted wax… the whole thing.

Honestly, it almost felt like a game at the time. After that, we thought we were in the clear. We even said goodbye on the Ouija board — closing it out properly, including saying goodbye to Annie so her spirit could move on. Then my mom put the board under the crawlspace. I made a mistake. Later on, we got another dog and her name was Delilah. She was my dog. She loved being outside with me, running through the sprinklers in the backyard. She was calm, sweet… nothing like Lucy. But this is where I messed up.

I snuck the Ouija board into my room. I hid it under my bed like it was nothing. Like it didn’t matter. Around the same time, my mom brought home two pet squirrels and kept them in my room. I had to take care of them — feed them, check on them, all that. One day, I walked by their cage and noticed something was off. One of them was just… dead. No explanation. Nothing wrong that I could see. I remember crying when my mom and stepdad got home, trying to explain it, but none of us understood how it happened. We buried it, and later let the other one go when it got older.

But things didn’t stop there.

This is the part that still hurts to talk about. I used to walk to my mom’s work at a nice apartment complex past the woods — and then I’d ride home with her. One day, while I was there, we got a call from my brother. My brother was crying. “Mom, Delilah got hit by a car. She can’t walk, we need to take her to the vet!” By the time we got home, my stepdad already had her in the back of the Dodge Durango. I sat back there with her. She was hurt so bad… but she still licked me as if it was the last time I’d see her. I’ll never forget that.

At the vet, we waited and waited. Then we had to go back home. When we came back, they told us her injuries were too severe. She didn’t make it. I completely broke down. That was my dog. We buried her in the backyard. After that, it didn’t stop. After Delilah died, things felt different and heavier. At night, we started hearing things in the crawlspace. We heard scratching, movement, and sounds that did not make sense. My mom started to believe that everything that had happened — the dog, the squirrel, all of it — was connected to the Ouija board.

So one night, my stepdad went to check under the crawlspace but the board was gone. That’s when they found out I had been hiding it in my room the whole time. I got in serious trouble. No surprise here. My stepdad took the board, and he burned it. He told me straight up: “Knock that shit off. Don’t ever mess with a Ouija board again.”

And after everything that happened… I didn’t… at least for a while.
