⭐️The “Men in the Cities” series contains about 60 hyper-realistic charcoal drawings created between 1979 and 1982. Robert Longo asked his friends to fall, jump, lose balance, and stumble to capture the right moment in the frame and then cut it on paper.

Graphic works became so popular that they were widely used in mass culture:

• in the film American Psychopath (2000)

translated from Russian: the painting of Robert Longo was used in the movie “American Psyco”

• In 2010, the Bottega brand Veneta collaborated with Longo, organizing a model shoot in the style of “People in cities”

• In 2026, Demna Gwasalia (a Georgian designer) was inspired by the “office” aesthetic of Robert Longo when creating the Gucci Resort 2027 collection — the show took place on Times Square.

⭐️ Robert Longo’s style evolved, and he later turned to prefiguring catastrophes: giant waves, shark strips, weapons, atomic explosions, etc. Robert Longo (as opposed to the general trend of chasing comfort and “silence”) is interested in the moment of absolute tension — within a second and immediately afterwards.
