Why and How I Transitioned My Role in My Corporate Job
I am a woman working in tech, specifically in the semiconductor industry 👩💻⚡️.
Where I was
Since the end of 2024, I’ve been thinking about finding a new direction in my corporate career. I’ve been in my current role since graduating, starting with little knowledge of the industry. Over the years, I’ve learned not only the technical fundamentals but also essential soft skills, especially through heavy cross-functional teamwork 🤝📚.
Why change
I’ve always been someone who feels alive when learning something new and challenging myself to grow 🌱✨. Yet recently, several things have made me consider repositioning my role:
- I no longer see clear growth or learning opportunities.
- I don’t feel a strong sense of belonging on my team — we often feel more like competitors than collaborators 🥲
- The role is extremely time-sensitive, requiring fast decisions even without fully understanding the “why” behind them 🔥💨
Because the job touches so many areas, we constantly juggle multiple tasks while working closely with fabs and foundries 🏭🔧. While it has been a valuable experience, I realized I prefer a more focused role, one where I can specialize, go deeper technically, and build expertise🎯✨
Where I am
Through multiple job searches and interviews, I eventually found the direction that felt right: transitioning into design rules, a role that allows me to strengthen my foundation and continue growing in the semiconductor world by learning more about chip design 🌐📐💛
There’s a small story behind this move. Right after I joined the new team, a huge layoff wave hit the company. I was extremely worried about whether I would be impacted 😥💭 But thankfully, I stayed. And that experience made me appreciate this opportunity even more.
Now, I want to make the most of it, not only to build deeper expertise, but also to share what I learn along the way to keep myself motivated✨. Design rules may sound technical, but I’ve discovered that many of the concepts are surprisingly similar to life lessons: learning boundaries, knowing limitations, preventing unintended consequences… and still finding ways to shine ✨🌿
I hope you’ll find these stories and insights interesting, and maybe even inspiring 💛
