Light as a cable

Well here I go again with dumb ideas… I think lasers are like trying to transmit energy by schaking a not tensioned rope very hard…like you would which that the rope was tensioned to simply pull… but it is not and you are forced to shake in order to transmit energy…and it is funny because lasers are literaly sine waves in the far field…so they are kind of like…literaly… bended ropes … that is why I have such an strong interest on the nearfield… I wonder if in this regime light could behave literally liketensioned ropes,a medium that transmits electricity from one surface to the other…moreover… it might be a self amplyfing medium.
