Renton Man Receives 73 Year Sentence for 2021 Murder & Shooting

On July 1, 2026, Joseph Dixon was sentenced in a King County court for the 2021 murder of Devon Hill and the shooting assault of two other people.

From the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office pre-sentence memo:

“In this case, the defendant opened the door of the vehicle in which Devon Hill, MS and TS were sitting, shot Devon Hill at close range in the side of the head, instantly killing him; shot MS in the head, chest, arm and shoulder, and shot TS in the shoulder. As MS and TS ran from the car and collapsed, the defendant jumped in the driver’s seat and took off in the vehicle, with Devon Hill dead in the back seat. This attack was without warning and without provocation; as MS said, the defendant was his friend. A short distance away, the defendant callously dumped Hill’s body in the gutter, abandoned the vehicle, and called for a getaway ride. Later, when he arrived in Bellingham at a motel, he told witnesses that he needed to shower because he had ‘blood and brains’ on his pants, and laughed as he discussed the killing and the apparent robbery. When he was finally apprehended by police more than a week later, the defendant, who had a 4-year-old child and another passenger in his car, tried to escape by ramming into vehicles belonging to police and ordinary citizens.”

King County Prosecutors requested a total of 974 months (81.16 years). Before sentencing, the court heard multiple victim impact statements from impacted family members. The court sentenced Mr. Dixon to 876 months (73 years).

Sentences are ultimately up to judges and made in line with sentencing ranges set by state lawmakers and determined by criminal history.
