The 780Tuners Start-up meet
The 780Tuners Start-up meet
It definitely feels a lot more like summer since the 780Tuners start-up meet. Hundreds of hot cars and masses of people in t-shirts, shorts and skirts will have that effect.
So Ted and I decided to take his 1965 Ford-enstein down, and check out some unique rides.
We knew our whip was unique, Ted has owned it since he was 16 years old, and has put countless hours of labor into the old girl — Fiber-glassing custom flares, frenching the head and tail-lights, upgrading the brakes, squeezing a 5.0L V8 into it. To say it’s one of a kind is an understatement. It’s an ever-changing canvas, complete with tiger print carpet and Recaro seats borrowed from a Pontiac Fiero. It was the perfect van to bring to a North-American tuner meet. It had Japanese tuner influences, before they were Japanese tuner influences. It’s a hot, flared out van with a kick-ass stereo, and yet it does this while maintaining its identity as a home grown hot rod.

On our way there, driving some back roads we encountered a flared out 370Z, a Scion FRS and an Evo X lined up at a red light, revving hard. The lights went out, and they were gone, racing to the startup meet.
Pulling into the lot, nestled between a casino and a shopping center, we soon became overwhelmed by beautiful Nissan 370Z’s, widebody Hyundai Genesis’ and a plethora of imported Japanese exclusives (Nissan ruled the meet -The lot was filed with Sx’s of all varieties, Stagea’s and Skyline GT-R’s). Slammed Volkswagen’s and stanced rally homologations in the shape of Mistubishi Evo’s and Subaru STI’s made up an equally large portion of the lot, as did the ultra tunable Scion FRS — Subaru BRZ platform.

A wildly modified Honda S2000, with a Corvette power-plant really captured the shows attention. You can listen to it here.

Lifted pick-ups, classic muscle, and some dudes in their roof basket gave the turn-out exceptional variety, and there was something for everybody to enjoy!

Of course, there were also some highly tuned exotics in the mix as well, the cake being a stanced Liberty Walk Lamborghini Aventador.

To say that the event was a success would be an understatement. All corners of the Edmonton car scene came out to show off, and appreciate each others respective rides, just look at the line up to get in!
