MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: 100 FOLLOWERS!

The moment you join Medium as a new writer you realize the ‘100 Follower’ mark is the pinnacle of success. Well, it is but it is not. It is really not everything. Yeah, getting 100 followers is the foundation for the partner program but, there’s a lot more. You need people who read your stuff and get lost in it enthusiastically.

Writing about a specific genre is going to make you a specialist, and you’ll attract all the audience from that genre, but you may not be able to get a wider audience. I write randomly. Not sticking to a topic allows me to write whatever I want to. I can write from my random thoughts to an article about societal issues. Eventually, encompassing audiences from myriads of groups. Everyone reads what interests him.

The follow-for-follow scheme is all over. And this has also penetrated Medium. Yes, I also did the same at first, but I feel it’s better to let it be original. Start reading others’ stories, just as you want everyone to read yours. Appreciate their efforts by dropping a lovely comment. Clap for them. Stick to one person, doing the same daily. Soon, you’ll get noticed. That person will also start responding to your articles and will help you grow.

Put simply, in the beginning, you will feel you are stuck. But believe me, you will improve once you believe in yourself and write as frequently as you possibly can. In the first 15–20 days, I only had 5 followers and that also were my friends and family. Now, I am approaching 50. I don’t write daily but yeah every couple of days. As a student, I cannot publish daily with a plethora of other things to do. Some stories won’t appeal to all, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t good.

A good technique would be to write about a trending theme or an upcoming event. Addressing global issues and topics would get you a global audience. Anyways, the best approach is to keep going with high hopes. Believe it has happened, and you are halfway there.
