The Weakest Link in Packaging: A Quick Observation on Box Security

I’ve spent years analyzing warehouse workflows, looking at box dimensions, void fill materials, and freight rates. But recently, while auditing our damage claims, I realized we had been completely ignoring the most vulnerable part of our shipments: the seal itself.

Walk through almost any fulfillment center, and you’ll hear the constant screech of plastic tape guns. Packers routinely use three or four overlapping strips just to feel confident the box won’t burst open in transit.

The real wake-up call, however, was transit pilferage. Standard plastic tape just sits on the surface of the cardboard. It can be pushed down, peeled back, and reapplied without leaving an obvious trace. The fix wasn’t buying thicker plastic; it was changing the chemistry of the adhesion.

Switching to a water-activated **carton sealing tape** completely changed our packing dynamics. Because the wet starch adhesive bonds directly with the corrugated fibers, it becomes a structural part of the box. You only need one single strip. If someone tries to tamper with it, the cardboard visibly tears.
