“Off Campus” shows that rom coms are back, with a touch of hockey

I didn’t read the books, so excuse me if I say something that shows I don’t know the story in a deeper way, okay?

As I didn’t read the books, I can’t really say that Belmont and Ella are the perfect Garrett and Hannah, BUT I can say that they have a lot of chemistry and I loved how their relationship was built. Both Belmont and Ella were incredible in showing their characters emotions, love realizations,

I like how it didn’t took too many episodes for Hannah’s and Garrett’s relationship to start happening. It was a fake dating/slow burn that was built in a smart way, slowly showing signals they were starting to have feelings for each other.

And then we have the development of their relationship facing some background situations coming from Garrett, which I liked that it wasn’t showed to us as like “this is his situation, it stills affects him, but nothing too deep”. It mix his character storyline with Hannah’s storyline, and I really liked how they did that, how it showed that it affected Garrett. It was an important link to be made to not only show his storyline still affects him, but also that he really likes Hannah’s character and doesn’t want to be bad for her.

Another point I like it was how Hannah’s storyline was shown. It was introduced to the audience (maybe the ones who haven’t read the book) slowly, but they were smart on how to make Garrett’s character aware of what happened, and that it still affects her. I just wished there was a mention of therapy in all this, as both situations are important, can affect the person in deeper ways and, at least in real life, it is something that it has to be addressed in therapy.

One thing that bothered a bit for me, and this is my personal opinion, were the sex scenes on the show. Yes, I do know that people hook up with each other, I know that couples have sex, and I also know that some of the scenes we have in the shows are there to tell the development of two characters stories, but at the same time I feel that some scenes were a bit unnecessary.

No, I do not mean vulgar, I mean that some of the scenes, although i understand why they were there, were just too much for me. Maybe it’s because I get a bit annoyed with sex scenes that are in the story just for the sake of it, and not really to tell the story, to create a connection, just because the characters are hooking up, but some of them were a no no for me.

I really liked the directing and the editing, with some parallels showing, and the script, with some pinch of comedy, it lighter the show and made some scenes extra fun. Oh, I can’t forget to mention the relationships between the other characters — both Hannah’s friendship with Allie and that of the hockey team, Garrett, Logan (who had important and very well-developed scenes), Dean, and John. Each may have their own story within the story, but they’re all there for one another, both on and off the rink and during the games.

Overall, “Off Campus” is a well-made series with well-developed characters, well-told stories, and relationships where we can see and feel the chemistry between the characters — and little by little, we find ourselves getting drawn into each of their stories. I’d give it an 8.5/10.
