Depression Can’t Hit a Moving Object

Too much ruminating will make things worse. More so with the dwelling of the past that can’t be changed. Let’s redirect the overthinking to the more productive path, the future. Nothing can be done to the past other than taking the lesson and experience to be put into the database of our being.

Moving will get you to places, not necessarily good ones, but as the saying “Unlikely things will likely happen, when the happening happens a lot”, moving breeds so many possibilities. It is the many things that weighed one down that come from the past, which hinder one to move at their desired speed.

Sometimes even not moving at all in fear of exhaustion and uncertainty. Which is funny because nothing is certain and pleasant about moving forward. Not for successful people, not for struggling people, not for normal people. The difference seems to be in the understanding of those 3 kinds of people, to name some, of what they need to do and what they want to do.

When then needs outweighed the wants, the actions seem to be automatic. One needs to eat to survive, or brush their teeth during a shower, and the act is automatic and weird to skip from their routine. But when one wants to have a better physique, the chain of acts suddenly becomes longer and more complicated. One needs to watch and restrict their usual diet, move their body more, and be mindful of what they consume. All of those need to be done consciously.

That is to mention the first hurdle of the “want”, the next level of challenge is the commitment to be consistent. The change of routine which means replacing some blocks of time in a day to actualize the goal. It’s easy to do that in a few days when the goal pictured at the beginning is the final of looking good, the brain thinks it will happen in an instance once we have been good for a couple times. When in fact the good parts that come out of them are in the process, not just the end of it.

Then when the routine is inevitably disrupted, the cake is too good to pass, the weekend alarm is too easy to snooze, the bed is unusually comfier than usual to get up from. One will think what is the point of continuing? I am not a consistent kind of person, then stop. Disappointed of one’s own lack of determination.

That is when the final challenge of moving lies, when one questions themselves, or worse, answers their own doubt with the familiar route one takes every time they hit an uncertainty. “I am just not that kind of person”, “my environment is not supporting me”, “I will never be like that”. Knowing very well that path of thinking will only drown the further, make them stuck again, and will take longer time to get up.

The title of this draft should be printed big enough to be seen every time as a reminder to branch one’s thinking routes to a broader picture. For even if the outcomes are not as bright as expected to be, the trying new thing and refusal to remain the same deserves an applause and a pat in the back.
