Motherwell FC 2026 Summer Transfer Suggestions

Off the back of securing European football and playing some of the best football in Europe, this summer feels vital for Motherwell to keep building on what they have. Whether that is keeping Jens Berthel Askou and the players that brought this success or recruiting new players to keep the success going. I have looked at what positions I feel Motherwell may need to recruit and have looked at some data to find some players that look like good signings. The positions I am looking at are:

• Centre Back (Welsh replacement)
• Centre Midfield
• Number 10
• Striker

Centre Back

Depth for 26/27:

• Paul McGinn
• Jordan Mcghee
• Stephen O’Donnell (preferred at RB)
• Liam Gordon (still waiting to find out if he renews his contract)

What we are looking for:

• Good Progressive passes and carries
• Good Aerial win rate
• Good defensive duel win rate

Centre Midfield

Depth for 26/27:

• Elliot Watt
• Lukas Fadinger
• Oscar Priestmann
• Youth Options e.g. Zander McAllister and Rocco McColm

What we are looking for:

• With Watt and Fadinger having great season in the 25/26 campaign, one or both of these players may depart Motherwell, so we will try to find replacement for them.
• Good Progessive carries/passes
• High pass completions
• Good at breaking lines
• Preferably good in the air

Number 10

Depth for 26/27:

• Regan Charles-Cook
• Elijah Just
• Ibrahim Said
• Olly Whyte

With Elijah Just likely to leave after the World Cup and Callum Slattery leaving at the end of his contract, Motherwell will need to sign in this area

What we are looking for:

• Good dribbler
• Good assist numbers (expected assists, shot assists)
• High number of shots taken
• High number of touches in box

Striker

Depth for 26/27:

• Tawanda Maswanhise
• Calum Hendry
• Eythor Bjørgolfsson

With Tawanda Maswanhise likely to leave after winning the SPFL Premiership golden boot and with Hendry and Bjørgolfsson failing to hit the ground running, Motherwell will need a new man to lead the line.

What we are looking for:

• Good presence in opposition box
• Isn’t afraid to shoot
• Goal scorer
• Good presser (tackles & interceptions)
