Where did May go? It’s June first, but my biological clock is still stuck in August, 2022. Ever since the pandemic, time has had no meaning.

There was a “targeted terrorist attack” in Boulder, Colorado today. They caught the guy, but my heart hurts because of all the time I spent on the Pearl Street Mall during my formative years. That was my home. There is no excuse for this kind of violent behavior, and I don’t care which side you’re on.

After that event, I decided to turn off my social media and email accounts. I needed an unplugged day. I washed our linens and re-made the bed, played silly games with our birds, and Nick and I binge-watched “Supernatural” for the umpteenth time because it’s a familiar, happy place that brings us joy and comfort.

The dove family on the front porch continues their incubation duties. The female dove leaves at about 9:30 AM, when the male dove takes over egg-sitting for the day. They switch places at about 6:00 PM, when the male leaves to find food and a roosting place for sleep and the female settles in for the night.

I watched the female scoot the eggs around and rearrange the nest sticks this evening. They have a good system. They always have a sweet greeting during the “changing of the guard” with a touch of beaks and a quick preening. We expect the eggs to hatch around June 10th — 12th.

We finally moved our humongous monstera plant (“Sully”) to its home on the fireplace hearth. The bird heater is no longer needed, so it’s been cleaned and stored for the summer. We waited until the birds were covered for the night so they wouldn’t have a freak out from a giant potted plant moving through the living room. I think the added sunlight from the living room window will do Sully good, and we’re very happy to have our entry hallway back.

One more cocktail to bolster me for the week ahead.
