Group 2 (GoetheVerse), Week 4

This week there was a lot of different things that we progressed with, including working hands on with VR for the first time in this semester. We also continued where we left off with our work from before, ideating and figuring out what experiments in relation to Goethe we want to focus on.

When it comes to the more hands on milestones, with help from the workshop, we managed to start up our projects with the quest and were introduced to several different possible interactions in mixed reality. This was a pretty inspiring process as we got a first hand view of how we could implement some of our idea specific interactions. Some of them we found particularly interesting as they fit in quite well with our ideas (like building blocks and the multispawn). Still, we need to keep what is possible with implementation in mind, considering our limited expertise level and the time constraints.

Except for working with the quests, we did extra research on our topic of choice and settled down on some specific ideas for the project more than others. We researched about the correlation of Goethe and alchemy, as well as other real life alchemists, some of which shared a lot of common ground with Faust. And of course, we continued with the ideation process, and narrowed down our multitude of ideas to a smalled scope that we were all happy with. We tried our best to still keep the questioning morality and religion elements of Faust, but tried to wrap them up in a more colorful, playful presentation and concept than the book.

All in all it was a pretty interesting week and we had a lot to learn, most of which we’ve included in our presentation for the next lesson. We are all satisfied with the progress and can’t wait to see what comes next.
