Losses aren’t always heavy and bad. Don’t feel guilty about it.
When we hear the word game, we usually think of winning. Winning means success. Winning means achievement.
Everyone has their own experience of playing a game. For me, a game once meant getting a job — and later, the feeling of freedom that came from losing it.
I once believed that success meant winning a corporate job. I cleared the interview and got into banking. I wanted to build a long-term career there. But slowly, the game changed.
It was no longer only about daily banking operations. It became a game of selling — insurance, loans, and funds. I was expected to convince people to buy products that did not feel right to me.
Every day was about achieving multiple targets along with regular banking work. Every day felt heavy. I was transferred from one branch to another, moving from city to city. Everywhere, things felt the same. I thought the game would become easier, but for me, it never did.
I couldn’t enjoy it.
Working a 9-to-5 job, I realised, was the toughest part of this game for me.
One day, an argument with my branch manager changed everything. It resulted in my resignation.
I wasn’t winning. I was just playing a game I didn’t want to play.
So, I quit.
Leaving felt like losing something very big and important — a stable job, a predictable routine, a life I thought was perfect for me.
But instead of sadness, I felt something else. Lightness. Relief. Freedom.
There was no more pressure to convince people about things I couldn’t stand behind.
People say loss comes with pain and guilt. But this loss felt like a breath of fresh air. No one was there to boss me around.
And then something happened.
I started a new business — a trading business dealing in kitchen utensils. After a few months, I got my first order. The income from that order was half of what my monthly salary used to be. Real products. Good quality. Real demand.
That’s when I realised something important.
I hadn’t lost the game. I had lost the wrong game.
And by losing it, I found myself.
Some losses don’t hurt. Some losses free us.
This was one of them.
