Death toll still obscure as Bangladesh hit by first cyclonic storm of the year | 1986 Bangladesh cyclone

There not remains a clear tally of fatalities or damages incurred by cyclone that wreaked havoc in Bangladesh days ago.

Over 50 individuals were feared to have drowned after two passenger ferries sank during the onslaught of the storm in the nation. One of them, with 150 people onboard, sank in the Sangu River; authorities and rescuers lifted 124 people to safety, while six of the passengers were confirmed to have been killed.

Offshore the coastal areas of Bangladesh, local news indicated that 25 deaths were tallied, alongside over 500 injuries. Strong waves, reportedly over 10 feet (3.04 meters) in height, inundated coastal districts in the country, including in the Barisal Division. Scores of houses and huts, alongside crops, were damaged or destroyed due to the cyclone.
