I Let an AI Rank My Resume Against a Job Description — Here’s What Redrob AI Taught Me
An honest review of Redrob AI’s Resume Ranker from a hackathon participant
I’ve been preparing for placements as a final-year B.Tech CSE (AI/ML) student, and like most students, I assumed my resume was solid. Good projects, decent CGPA, relevant skills. Then I tried Redrob AI’s Resume Ranker — and got a reality check I didn’t expect.
What I Did
During the INDIA.RUNS Hackathon 2026 by Redrob AI and Hack2Skill, participants were given access to Redrob AI’s platform. I pasted a real job description — a software engineering role requiring OOP, database management, version control, and a CS degree — directly into the Resume Ranker.
The platform did something I hadn’t seen before: it didn’t just scan for keywords. It ran a full analysis and returned a ranked candidate score.
My result? 52.5 out of 100 as a Data Visualization Intern profile.
That number stung a little. But it was honest — and that honesty is exactly what makes this tool valuable.

Why the Score Made Sense
When I looked at what the ranker evaluated, the logic was clear. The job description emphasized scalable software design, OOP, and version control. My profile at the time led with data visualization — a related but not directly matching skill set. The AI correctly identified the semantic gap between what the role needed and what my profile was communicating.
This is the core insight Redrob AI delivers that traditional resume scanners don’t: it understands context, not just keywords.
A resume that says “Python” doesn’t automatically match a role that needs “Python for distributed backend systems.” The Resume Ranker sees that difference.
What I Changed
After seeing my score, I understood the problem immediately. My profile description was too generic. I was describing what I did — not what I delivered, and not in the language the role was looking for.
The fix wasn’t adding more keywords. It was reframing my experience in terms of the problems I solved and the systems I built — making the semantic connection between my work and the role’s requirements explicit.
The Feature That Stood Out Most
The instant ranked output with candidate score is genuinely impressive. You paste a JD, and within seconds you get a numerical score showing exactly where you stand relative to the role requirements. There’s no vague feedback like “your resume needs improvement.” There’s a number, and that number is defensible.
For students and early-career professionals, this kind of specific, data-driven feedback is far more actionable than generic resume advice.
Final Thought
Redrob AI’s Resume Ranker doesn’t tell you what you want to hear. It tells you what a recruiter’s AI system will actually think when it sees your profile — before you waste an application on a role you’re not positioned for.
That’s not a small thing. That’s the difference between guessing and knowing.
