Detective Stewart story #1 | Flash Fiction Prompt #19

Detective Stewart studied the loyalty card. 6th and 12th was scrawled on the back.

He looked up at the street signs. 6th Street and 12th Avenue. Traffic still surged past despite the late hour. Stewart was learning that New York truly was the city that never sleeps.

He walked into the Starbucks and approached the counter. He held up a strip of photobooth photos.

‘Do you recognise this girl? I was told she worked here.’

The waitress squinted at the images. ‘You must have the wrong Starbucks. This is 12th Avenue and 6th Street. You’re looking for the one on 6th Avenue and 12th Street.‘

Stewart groaned and rubbed his tired eyes in frustration. It felt like he’d never get the hang of this city.

The waitress winked at him. ‘While you’re here, how about a cup of coffee? On the house. You look like you need it.’

Prompt: Write a story where two strangers meet because of a simple misunderstanding.
