Some moments are just meant to be noticed

There were many stray puppies born in front of our house about two months back. Seven of them. They used to play together all the time. We would give them whatever spare food we had, and many other people in the neighborhood fed them too, but they still stayed outside.

The puppies used to play in front of our house with my family members too.

Then one day, one of the puppies got sick. He stopped playing and slept all day. One afternoon, he was lying there while all the other puppies were playing nearby. And then I saw something that stayed with me.

One of his siblings came and sat next to him. She gently put her paw on him, almost like she was petting him

It was such a wholesome thing to see.

He passed away a few days later. I don’t know how the sibling felt, but I believe she understood something was wrong. If she didn’t have that kind of emotional capacity, why would she sit with him when he was sick?

Slowly, one by one, all the puppies died. They couldn’t survive the harsh winter.

But if I hadn’t noticed that one moment , the sister sitting beside the sick puppy, I would have missed something very real and very tender.

And I’m glad I didn’t.
