My OJT Experience (Week 1)
Starting my On-the-Job Training/ Practicum marks a new chapter in my journey as an IT student. After years of learning, I am finally given the opportunity to apply everything in a real working environment. This can be both exciting and challenging, and that is exactly what I experienced when I began my OJT at Quanby.
It has been a pleasure starting my OJT as an IT intern at Quanby. We officially began last Friday, February 20, and our schedule runs from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM every weekday.
On our first day, we were oriented by our assigned mentor about the system we would be working on, and the system that is assigned to us, a team of 4 developers, is a generic-style Learning Management System (LMS). At first, everything felt overwhelming, such that, here were several frameworks being used in the project. While most of them were already familiar to me, it was still different seeing how they are applied in a real production environment.

During the first few days, I focused on exploring the system, understanding its structure, features, and how everything connects with the system. What really caught my attention was the production-grade folder structure which seems like their template that is used in their projects. It was more organized and scalable compared to the projects I’ve previously done in my school and personal projects. I learned how important proper structure is, especially when working on large systems with a team, that is something I can definitely apply to my future projects.

As the days passed, I slowly started making progress. Little by little, I became more comfortable with the system and the workflow. Although it was overwhelming at first, I am still learning and still exploring. Every day brings new challenges and new knowledge. I know there is still a lot for me to improve, but I am excited about the journey and the skills I will continue to develop throughout this OJT experience.
