To Be मोती: Surviving in a City That Refuses to Look Down

They need a hand that reaches out, not a foot that shooes away.
The road under cracked paw pads was searing with every step, not only out of heat but ignorance as well, as he moved along the roaring city that refused to look down. मोती was a walking definition of what hunger and starvation does to a body, not only of food but affection as well. Ribs pressed against his fawny skin stretched as thin as cellophane covered by scanty ,scratched fur and pale scars.
“click-clack” “click-clack” echoes heels of the bipedals rushing past him with bags that exhale the aroma of warm breads and crunchy biscuits, to whom he was nothing but a part of the soulless architecture- wall, brick, stone, tower and a dog to look away from.
मोती saw a woman tossing her half eaten burger in the bin so he waited and gave a wag in hope of a crumb being tossed his way but her eyes are glued to a glowing screen and her thumbs are too busy scrolling through pictures of gourmet meals to feast on next. Then across the street he saw a child’s ice cream scoop sliding from the cone, landing with a soft thud on his shoe. मोती ran across the street with the little energy and hope left in him only for a brown glossy Clarks boot with a thick crepe sole to raise above him just to shoo him away midway.
To be anything close to what मोती is,is to live in a world of almosts -· Almost touched by a kid before their parent pulls them away -· Almost fed before the door is slammed shut on your face -· Almost loved by a million souls who have “everything” but willingly choose to not spare an ounce of “anything”
मोती exists in a sea of plenty only to drown with scarcity.
This story is not fiction.
It is the reality for millions of stray animals in our cities. However, change is possible if we stop to look down. Organizations like **Hamari Pahchan NGO** have recognized the struggle of these voiceless lives and that :
जीवदया is not just an act of charity, but an act of shared humanity.
Through their Project Pawtection (also known as Paws of Love), they are here to bring a change. As the Best NGO in Delhi for grassroots impact, they don’t just focus on human empowerment but also extend their compassion to our four legged companions.
BE THE CHANGE
We often think we need to do something “big” to help, but for strays like मोती, a single bowl of water, packet of biscuits, a gentle caress of this human hand and a voice that won’t shout at it rather whisper to stay is all they dream of. Support Hamari Pahchan NGO in their mission to protect the voiceless. Whether you choose to volunteer your time, donate to their animal welfare funds, or simply choose to stop and look down and acknowledge their presence, it will all be worth it.
